10th Grade Checklist
You've survived 9th grade.
Now keep going!
Now keep going!
This is your year to dive into more focused career exploration and preparation for life after high school. Here are some key steps to take during your 10th grade year.
Take Career Academy.
This is a required class for all 10th graders. You'll take inventory of your interests and abilities, explore possible career paths, practice key steps in the job application process, create a resume, and gain real experience through job shadows and mock interviews.
Take the PSAT.
Sophomores take this test in mid-October at GPHS. This test will give you valuable practice for taking the SAT and may qualify you for college scholarships. The College Board offers PSAT test tips and free tools to prepare here.
Get involved in an activity and do volunteer work in the community.
Attend the club fair to learn about student groups at GPHS, and visit our volunteer page for information about community service.
Keep track of your high school activities and accomplishments.
This will help you down the road with job and college applications. Some ways to track your activities in high school include:
Activities Chart: You'll need a detailed record of your extracurricular activities to apply for scholarships as a 12th grader.
Academic Resume: This may come in handy for applications and to share with teachers when you ask for recommendations.
Raise.me: Participating colleges award micro-scholarships to students for completing their classes, participating in extracurriculars, gaining volunteer and work experience, and even attending college visits and fairs. Even if you don't attend one of these schools, this is a great tool for tracking your high school activities.
Learn more about careers that are in high demand today, and get a jump start on occupational training through hands-on experience.
Chart your course to graduation.
Update your Plan and Profile (your counselor will help you with this) and make sure you are on the right track for graduation. When you register for 11th grade in the Spring, consider taking more challenging classes. 11th grade coursework and grades are especially important for college admissions decisions.
