Volunteering

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering brings a wide diversity of people together for a common purpose: to make the world better. As with any work you engage in, volunteering in the community will help you learn and grow as a student, as a person, and as a future employee. Here are a few more benefits of volunteering:

  • Volunteering is fun! You'll get to try new things and meet new people.

  • Volunteering helps bring a sense of pride and purpose to activities and work that you do.

  • You'll learn more about the issues affecting our community and our world.

  • Many college admissions and scholarship committees look for community service when deciding to accept you or give you money.

  • It can help you find a job, make connections, and decide on a career for your future.

Keep a Record of Your Service

Make sure you keep track of your volunteer work, including the hours you served, what kind of work you did, and contact information for the organization or supervisor. This will come in handy as you build your resume and complete college, scholarship, and job applications.
