Career Technology Education (CTE) courses provide in-depth instruction to develop manipulative skills, technical knowledge, and related occupational information to form initial employment and post high school educational opportunities. Courses provide a wide variety of training for workers classified as technical, skilled, semi-skilled, and specialist. VICA, a related youth club with skill and leadership development, is a vital part of applied technology trade and industrial classes.

Prepares students to engage in the servicing and maintenance of all types of automobiles. Instruction includes training in the Maintenance and Light repair of automobiles, specifically shop safety, transmission/transaxle, brakes, steering, and suspension. This course introduces students to the basic principles and applications of digital photography as a medium, a skill set, and an integral part of today’s digital literacy needs. Students will explore the principles of photographic composition as well as the technical skills necessary for acquiring, manipulating and outputting digitized photographic images utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Additional related materials may be needed in addition to the class fee.

This course is designed to be a continuation of Introduction to Graphic Communications. The course prepares students to apply technical knowledge in the areas of design & layout, related computer and software, safety, printing processes, finishing and binding, and professional skills. The course includes instruction in printing, printing equipment and operation, computer hardware and software, digital imaging, print preparation, and electronic prepress.

This course introduces students to the important maintenance procedures all car owners should know. Each student will reduce ownership costs by learning to do basic service themselves. Students will use professional tools and equipment such as car lifts and scan tools. Changing a flat, oil change, tire rotation, basic brakes and appearance care will be among the projects students learn to do safely. Classroom instruction will cover an overview of all basic automobile systems. Having a car to bring is helpful but NOT required. Cars are expensive; we will learn to avoid the common mistakes.
Law Enforcement (704801)

This course introduces students to the field of law enforcement and the criminal justice system, covering courtroom and trial procedures, significant court cases, the rights of the accused, and challenges in law enforcement. Students will learn about their legal rights and explore careers in law enforcement, from police work to prosecuting attorneys.
The course includes hands-on experiences such as demonstrations with K9 units and SWAT teams, offering insight into the daily realities of the profession. Students will also tour the Salt Lake County Jail to better understand the justice system. (Note: Students must be at least 16 years old to participate in the tour. Younger students may join a future tour in another semester or year.)
This course provides practical knowledge and experiences for anyone interested in law enforcement or the criminal justice system.
TV Broadcasting 1 & 2 KOLT News (701051 & 701061)

This course is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills related to the television broadcasting industry. This includes instruction and hands-on assignments in the following areas: camera operation, audio systems, lighting systems, pre-production, studio operations, live streaming school events, control room operations, visual effects and graphics, post-production, video making and editing, and copyright laws. Students in this class produce our KOLT News broadcast. Additional related materials may be needed in addition to the class fee.

This Basic woodworking class will help you learn how to safely build projects in our wood shop. In the full-year woods 1 class you will learn how to safely use the machines by creating two assigned projects during the first semester. After you are comfortable with how the shop works you will be able to design and build projects of your own choosing throughout the second semester.

This is an excellent class to gain foundational skills in woodworking and manufacturing. You will learn how to interpret plans and safely build projects in the shop. The semester version of Woods 1 is a fast-paced class where students will learn how to use the shop safely by building two assigned projects throughout the semester. Woods 3 Furniture Design (705140)

This woodwork course consists of designing, planning, and using hand and power equipment correctly and safely. This course provides students with in-depth instruction in the woodshop. Students will use practical knowledge needed to work on their own projects and continue with lifelong skills in woodworking. Safe practices, design, finishes, and furniture design and manufacturing will be this course’s main purpose. Students will be required to pay for the wood used on their individual projects.
