Intro to Health Science (704001)

This class is designed for freshmen and sophomore students.  Introduction to Health Science is a course intended to create awareness of career possibilities in health care and inform students of the educational options available for health science and health technology programs.  Instruction includes beginning anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical ethics, diseases, and disorders, as well as the emotional, mental, physical, social, and environmental well-being of an individual. (Does not fulfill Health II requirement for graduation)


Medical Terminology (704020)

Students must be able to read at grade level.  This class consists of lectures and video presentation.  Students learn the meaning and pronunciation of prefixes, roots, suffixes that combine to form over 11,000 medical terms.  This is essential knowledge for any health career.  This class is a prerequisite for Medical Assisting and Pharmacy Technician at the GTI and recommended for Certified Nurse Assisting.  Recommended for juniors and seniors.  Any sophomore interested need to speak to department head before registering for class.

This course provides students with an in-depth look into the structure and function of the human body, includes medical terminology, diseases and disorders, medical ethics, and medical career exploration.  The class is designed to prepare students for a variety of health careers and to prepare them to succeed in a variety of health technology programs.  Actual clinical experiences and service learning experiences help students decide if they should pursue a health occupation.  As a result of this course's in-depth and fast-paced learning, it is recommended but not required to have taken biology or chemistry.  Sophomore students interested in this subject are strongly encouraged to take Introduction to Health Science.
