ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Students enrolling in Art Classes should expect to have an enjoyable, rewarding and informative experience through classes intended to meet the needs of any student at any level of artistic skill. Beginning art classes are designed for students with little or no art experience. Courses provide a basic foundation and are prerequisites for more advanced classes. Classes are designated Skill Level 1, 2, or 3 (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced.) Most classes will require an art fee to cover materials.


AP Art (502540)

AP Studio Art-2D Design Test: $95.00

This course is reserved for students who are truly interested in earning college art credit while still in high school; it is equivalent of a first-year college art class. You should have a deep interest in the visual arts as well as the dedication and skills to excel in a college studio environment. Check with the Art Department Faculty before registering for this course to ensure you have fulfilled all course prerequisites. You and your parents should be aware that this course is not easy, you will be required to consistently invest time over the summer as well as many hours outside of class during the school year fulfilling the course requirements. You will be expected to develop mastery in a variety of media, formal composition, as well as the visual illumination of ideas. You will be required to build a large portfolio of sophisticated artwork to be judged by the AP committee. Teacher approval:

Art 1020 CE (Basic Drawing) Skill Level 1 (708221)

Available For: 11th, 12th

Fee: $40.00

This is a challenging college course for seniors, who are great students and love art. However, you do not need to be great at art to take this course. This course is a foundation course in building visual thinking and rendering skills. Life drawing, art appreciation, and technical practice in figure and perspective are explored in various media. Basic understanding of the principles and elements will be introduced. Teacher approval:


Art Foundations 2 (501201)

This course is a basic course that introduces students to basic principles and elements of art. Students will work with several different mediums; watercolor, collage, and drawing. This class is used as a prerequisite for any advanced art class.


Beginning Drawing (502001)

Length: Semester

Available For: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

Fee: $40.00

This course is an introduction to traditional drawing processes. Students will explore the pictorial themes, subjects, media, and compositions central to the drawing process. The focus is on mastery as well as creativity.


Beginning Painting (503001)

Length: Semester

Available For: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

Fee: $40.00

This Course examines students to various painting techniques, and styles. Painting’s place in art history and aesthetics will be introduced as well. It is designed to help students understand color theory and reach quick success in the rendering of basic subjects. Prerequisite: Drawing 1-5. An investment in a paint set is necessary.


Intermediate Painting (503100)

Available For: 10th, 11th, 12th

Fee: $40.00

Students are introduced to various painting media, techniques and styles. Instruction helps students utilize such media as acrylics and oil in rendition of a wide range of subjects.  Prerequisite: Beginning Painting


Commercial Photography 1 (701201) 

Length: Semester 

Available For: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th 

Fee: $5.00 

This course introduces students to the basic principles and applications of digital photography as a medium, a skill set, and an integral part of today’s digital literacy needs. Students will explore the principles of photographic composition as well as the technical skills necessary for acquiring, manipulating and outputting digitized photographic images utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Additional related materials may be needed in addition to the class fee. 


Commercial Photography 2 (701211)

Available For: 10th, 11th, 12th 

Fee: $5.00 

This course builds on the basic principles and applications of digital photography  students learned in Commercial Photography 1 and introduces advanced knowledge and skillsets as a medium, a skill set, and an integral part of today’s digital literacy needs. Students will further explore the principles of photographic composition as well as the technical skills necessary for acquiring, manipulating and outputting digitized photographic images utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Commercial Art 1 (701261)

A course in applied visual arts that focuses on the principles and techniques for effectively communicating ideas and information to promote products and services. This course provides experience in a variety of applied art media, including: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign. Can receive CTE Credit.


Drawing 3-4 (502300)

Length: Semester

Available For: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

Fee: $80.00

This is a full year class in which students will gain experience in various mediums. Composition, perspective, figure drawing, the time-line of art history, and developing a personal portfolio will be emphasized. This class will help prepare you for advanced classes and AP portfolios. Prerequisite: Drawing1. Teacher approval:


Drawing 5-6 (502450)

Length: Semester

Available For: 11th, 12th

Fee: $80.00

(Skill Level 2, 3) This course offers students special instruction in portrait drawing and in different mediums such as pen, ink, acrylic, pastel, and colored pencil. This class will prepare students for college work. Students will be required to prepare a portfolio. Supplies are required and are available for purchase. Teacher Approval:


Exploring Art CE (Art 1010) (708201)

Length: Semester

Available For: 11th, 12th

Fee: $40.00

This course is offered to self-disciplined juniors and seniors seeking a semester of college art credit. Although you do not need prior visual art experience to take this course, you must have an open mind and be willing to learn. You will learn art history and aesthetics, as well as effective studio practice in a positive and nonjudgmental environment.

You must allocate a minimum of 2 hours a day outside of class for this course.
