Students whose 16th birthday is on or before February 22, 2025 are eligible for the First Semester class. Students whose 16th birthday is on or before July 18, 2024 are eligible for Second Semester class. Summer Driver Education is available for those students who will be 16 on or before October 30, 2024. Any student enrolling in driver education at Cottonwood High School must have passed 9th grade English and 9th grade World Geography to enroll. Students need to get their learners permit before each semester starts. Fee  must be paid by the second week of the course or students will be transferred from the class.

This year-long course is designed to foster success for 9th grade students as they transition from Middle School to High School expectations. This class is designed to assist and support students in their general classes. Support and assistance will be provided to the students in completing assignments/test, developing study skills, advocacy, resilience and communicating with people.  Students will be involved in career exploration and examination of post-secondary options based upon assessment of interests and skills. Students will also examine their personal leadership qualities and interpersonal skills as they relate to high school, the workplace and other future endeavors.


Latinos in Action (691220)

  Latinos In Action (LIA) offers an asset-based approach to bridging the graduation and opportunity gap for Latino students, working from within the educational system to create positive change. Our program operates as a year-long elective course taught by a highly qualified teacher at the school level with the goal of empowering Latino youth to lead and strengthen their communities through college and career readiness. We accomplish this by focusing on four pillars: leveraging personal and cultural assets, excelling in education, serving the community, and developing leadership skills. Because of this unique combination, the LIA model has proven effective throughout the United States. The course takes place during the school day, with some additional service requirements taking place after school. Students travel to elementary schools and work with teachers to help younger children learn. LIA Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA all year and maintain 80% or higher attendance over all classes, commit to participate actively in LIA activities and service projects. Bilingualism is a benefit for students enrolled in this course, but it is not a requirement. 

 

Latinos In Action (LIA) ofrece un enfoque basado en activos para cerrar la brecha de graduación y oportunidades para los estudiantes latinos, trabajando desde dentro del sistema educativo para crear un cambio positivo. Nuestro programa opera como un curso electivo de un año impartido por un maestro altamente calificado a nivel escolar con el objetivo de capacitar a los jóvenes latinos para que lideren y fortalezcan sus comunidades a través de la preparación universitaria y profesional. Logramos esto al enfocarnos en cuatro pilares: aprovechar los activos personales y culturales, sobresalir en la educación, servir a la comunidad y desarrollar habilidades de liderazgo. Debido a esta combinación única, el modelo LIA ha demostrado su eficacia en todo Estados Unidos. El curso se lleva a cabo durante el día escolar, con algunos requisitos de servicio adicionales después de la escuela. Los estudiantes viajan a las escuelas primarias y trabajan con los maestros para ayudar a los niños más pequeños a aprender. Los estudiantes de LIA deben mantener un GPA de 2.0 durante todo el año y mantener 80% o mas alto de asistencia en sus clases y comprometerse a participar activamente en las actividades y proyectos de servicio de LIA. El bilingüismo es un beneficio para los estudiantes matriculados en este curso, pero no es un requisito.

Peer tutors gain the experience of working closely with other students to help reach their goals, while also creating friendships inside our special education classroom. Peer tutoring is a fantastic service opportunity and is highly valued by colleges and scholarship organizations. 


Study Hall/Study Skills (691101)

Independent study class to work on homework, school work, or credit recovery and study for AP and CE classes during the school day.  A great place for any student who needs extra time to work on homework or any other school work and earn elective credit.  This is also a great place for a student to work on any online courses.  

Technical Theatre/Stage Crew (691051)

This class is designed to give students an opportunity to learn and practice stage production and design. After completion of the class students will have acquired a basic knowledge of the design and building of sets, props, costumes, lighting, and sound. During class, students will work on Cottonwood plays and productions, as well as outside rentals. Additionally the students will participate in the maintenance and upkeep of the Cottonwood stages and performance spaces. Ideal for students who want to work backstage or gain a greater appreciation for the technical side of theatre. 


Yearbook I (569600)

This is a course for students who plan and produce the school yearbook. The course includes the opportunity for students to learn to create yearbook pages while developing skills in copy writing, layout, photography, teamwork, collaboration, and general organization.  You are required to take photos of events outside of school hours throughout the entire school year. This class requires a 2.0 CPA and an application process.
