This class provides an introduction to the concepts of modern Astronomy. The solar system, the sun, stars, the Milky Way and other galaxies, current theories of the origin, evolution, and fate of the universe. The aim is to develop an appreciation of the physical universe and the scientific methods we use to understand it.

Are you interested in how life works? In this class you will learn about the basic units of life, which are cells all the way to the larger interactions of life. This is a great class to start your high school science experience with. It will cover the basics of scientific process as well as a wide variety of biological topics. This is a lab-based science in which you will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on way.


Honors Biology (601100)

This course will cover all the basic concepts learned in Biology 1-2 in greater depth and at an accelerated pace.  It is designed for the student who is looking for an academic challenge. This is a lab-based class and will be taught using a variety of methods to give students a hands-on learning experience. This class is recommended for those intending to enroll in AP Biology.


AP Biology (601200)

Are you interested in getting ahead in the medical field or other sciences? This course is equivalent to a freshman biology college course. Hands-on lab experiences will cover the principles of evolution, cells, genetics, and ecology. Up to six semester hours of college credit may be given by some colleges upon completing this course and passing the AP exam. Prerequisite: Biology, Chemistry

This is a basic Chemistry course that is designed for the college bound student. Principles, concepts and quantitative thinking are emphasized. The course will cover atomic theory, reaction types, equilibrium, kinetics, acids/bases, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry bonding and applications of chemistry in society. These concepts will be discussed in the classroom and demonstrated or practiced in a laboratory setting. An emphasis is also placed on quantitative relationships of the principles covered. 


AP Chemistry (601700)

AP Chemistry Test Fee: $95.00

This course is equivalent to a freshman chemistry course at a university. The principles of chemistry are covered in depth with extensive use of mathematics. Some descriptive study of the elements is also included, along with sophisticated laboratory work.  Successful completion of both this course and the advanced placement examination may result in the award of up to six semester hours of credit by some colleges and universities. Prerequisites: Chemistry 1-2 or AP Physics 2.

Earth Science is the study of planet Earth and its connected systems. It has four parts: space, which focuses on the origins of the Earth and the universe, as well as, the factors that make life possible; plate tectonics, which focuses on the shaping of the outer part of the Earth via earthquakes and volcanoes; water/air, which focuses on how water’s properties and sunlight cause currents, weather, and climate; and resources, which focuses on how we find and manage Earth’s resources.

This is an Earth Science Course for college-bound students with more rigor with more of an emphasis on science writing and higher-level thinking, and non-honors earth science is not intended to be a prerequisite to this course. This course, formally known as the dinosaur class, covers the 4.5-billion-year history of Earth. Topics include dating of Earth materials, tectonic history, paleontology, evolution, extinction, and animal groups in the fossil record. It can be taken before, during, or after other geology classes.


Fossils and Earth History (GEO 1020) (708721)

This is an introductory college course in Geology. GEO 1020 is an introduction to the 4.5-billion year geologic history of Earth and the evolution of life through fossils. Historical geology and fossils will be used to explore the physical science principles and scientific processes that leads to our understanding of Earth. It does not have any prerequisites and is open to any grade level. This course also includes a free OER textbook.

Medical Anatomy & Physiology (704030)

This course provides students with an in-depth look into the structure and function of the human body, includes medical terminology, diseases and disorders, medical ethics, and medical career exploration. The class is designed to prepare students for a variety of health careers and to prepare them to succeed in a variety of health technology programs. Actual clinical experiences and service learning experiences help students decide if they should pursue a health occupation. As a result of this course’s in-depth and fast-paced learning, it is recommended that students take Biology and Chemistry concurrently or before this course. Sophomore students interested in this subject are strongly encouraged to take Introduction to Health Science. This course may also be taken to fulfill a 3rd science credit requirement. (This does not meet NCAA requirements)


Physical Geography GEOG 1000 (708701)

This is an introductory college course in Geology. This course is a mathematical treatment of the principles of physics. Mechanics, electricity, heat, light, and sound are studied.  In both the lectures and the laboratory experiments, emphasis is placed on quantitative relationships. This course prepares the student for further study in physics, medicine, architecture, engineering, and the physical sciences. This is a college preparatory course. Prerequisite: Enrollment in Secondary Math II.


A BLOCK: Secondary Math II Honors & AP Physics 1 (692530)

This class presents an integrated approach to Secondary Math II Honors and introductory college-level physics. The intent is to increase student understanding by correlating concepts of both classes to provide mathematical support to physics principles. AP Physics 1 explores topics such as kinematics, dynamics, and energy. Through inquiry-based investigations, students will develop scientific critical thinking and reasoning skills. The course will be taught as a combined class, meeting every day, by instructors from both the mathematics and science departments. Credit will be earned in both subjects. Students may choose to take the AP Physics 1 examination in May. Graphing calculator recommended.



B BLOCK: Secondary Math III Honors  & AP Physics 2 (692540)

C BLOCK: AP Calculus BC  & AP Physics C (692550)

This course is equivalent to a university freshman engineering physics and calculus course. The intent is to increase student understanding by correlating concepts of both classes to provide mathematical support to physics principles. The course includes materials regularly covered in college differential and integral calculus. Special emphasis is placed on applying the principles of calculus to the solving of problems in mechanics, electricity, and magnetism. The class meets daily and will be taught by instructors from both science and mathematics. Students may choose to take the AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism exams in May. Most universities will award up to 8 semester hours of Calculus credit and up to 8 semester hours of Physics credit to students who pass the AP exams.

Graphing calculators will be required.

Interested in animals? Want to take a class that focuses on these amazing organisms and their anatomy? Then take zoology, which means “study of animals”. The first semester will delve into how animals are classified and evolution, as well as invertebrate animals. The second semester focus in on vertebrates and ecology. This class will have several dissection opportunities in it to learn about animal anatomy. Prerequisite: Biology
