Accounting 1 (702101)

Accounting is the language of business. Many individuals in a business complete accounting forms and prepare accounting reports. Owners, managers, and accounting personnel use their knowledge of accounting to understand the information provided in the accounting reports. Regardless of their responsibilities within an organization, individuals can perform their jobs more efficiently if they know the language of business--accounting. Students will develop skills beginning with an understanding of the basic elements and concepts of double-entry accounting systems. Skills will include a knowledge of the accounting cycle, entering transactions in journals, posting to ledgers, compiling end-of-period worksheets, and preparing financial statements. State Competency Certificate available.


Business Law (702251)

In this class, students will gain an understanding of how the law affects consumers, minors, workers, and how the law impacts the lives of individuals. Topics covered include contract law, employment law, criminal and civil law, tort law, the court system and other related legal topics. Students will understand how to make legal agreements, and how to protect themselves from frauds, lawsuits, bankruptcy, and other legal pitfalls. This is an excellent course for a student interested in a career in law or any student who wants to know more about how our legal system works.  State Competency Certificate available.


Business Office Specialist (702001)

This course is designed for students to learn beginning through advanced concepts in using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and electronic presentation software (Microsoft Office). The skills learned in this class will help students in using software applications to complete assignments in high school classes, obtain employment, and prepare for further education after school. Students will integrate applications learned. State Competency Certificate  available.   Concurrent Enrollement option for 11th and 12th graders.


Business Office Specialist CE (CSIS 1020) (710151)

Computer Essentials is the concurrent enrollment version of Business Office Specialist. This course is a hands-on introduction to problem solving using office productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Basic hardware, software, networking, internet and computer theory topics are discussed. It is intended to help the student become computer literate and computer competent. The course curriculum is directed at preparing the student to use the computer as an everyday problem-solving tool. Students will have the opportunity to obtain a Microsoft Office Specialist industry certificate. The certification is recognized worldwide as the best method for employers to validate computer skill proficiency. State Comptency Certificate Available


Entrepreneurship (702211)

The primary focus of the course is to help students understand the process of analyzing a business opportunity, develop a plan to organize and promote the business and its products/services, and finally, to understand the capital required, the return on investment desired, and the potential for profit. Entrepreneurship is designed for students who have an interest in developing the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for successful entrepreneurs. The performance objectives are designed to work in conjunction with DECA and FBLA, and students are encouraged to participate in these associations and their respective competitions. State Competency Certificate available.


Investing and Wealth Management (Course 702395)

This investing and wealth management course is designed to teach students the basics of investing and finance.  Strands will cover compound interest, risk analysis, financial statements analysis, asset valuation, financial markets, stock valuations, working capital management, investment vehicles and emerging trends in investing.  Students will also be encouraged to explore the accounting and finance pathway and the many career opportunities in investing and finance management.

Marketing 1 explores the seven core functions of marketing which include:

·        Marketing Planning – why target market and industry affects businesses

·        Marketing-Information Management – why market research is important

·        Pricing – how prices maximize profit and affect the perceived value

·        Product/Service Management – why products live and die

·        Promotion – how to inform customers about products

·        Channel Management – how products reach the final user

·        Selling – how to convince a customer that a Product is the best choice

Students will utilize knowledge in hands-on projects which may include: conducting research, creating a promotional plan, pitching a sales presentation, and introducing an idea for a new product/service.
