Stars for Math Counting 3, 4, & 10This lesson helps students learn about the many roles our mothers and grandmothers have. Mothers do so much for us: Moms wash our laundry - sensory item jeans/clothes; Moms cook for us - sensory item pot or pan; moms clean for us - sensory item gloves/duster/wash rag - crumpled paper balls and a trash can/bin; moms play with us - any toy or game of choice; moms help us learn - sensory item numbers, moms chauffeur/drive us where we need to go - sensory item toy car/truck; moms are our heroes - sensory item crown or medal;

Present two items from the list above that represent things that mom may do around the house to help us. Have a student choose between two objects either verbally requesting, by reaching for, touching, or looking at the item. While at school, students will also be encouraged to improvise on instruments as a way to use science processing/thinking skills.

Choice Item Jeans. Explain that Mothers and grandmothers help us with our laundry. If your student is working on writing, assist them to write "mom" with their most independence. During the song have them practice the skill of - putting in - the clothing items (jeans) into a bin or box - or your washing machine. If you choose the bin or box with a lid, have them put the lid on. Then the two of you may shake the box to "wash" the clothes. The students then practice the skill of - take out - by taking the clothes out. At that point you may choose to model folding the clothes.
