This artifact contains details of a recent time that I experienced in a classroom base setting. I was given the opportunity to complete what is called a "Teach Live" assessment. This is a moment where you walk into an empty classroom, address an empty whiteboard, and wait for someone to begin speaking. Once an instructor has addressed you, five animated students appear on the screen in front of you. You have the responsibility of teaching them one of the select topics assigned to you. This was quite a different experience.
A moment that has really stuck with me this year is when I recently completed my Teach Live. It was not, by any means, a cherished moment that I will reminisce about. It was actually pretty unpleasant. It felt unnatural and awkward even. In the actual classroom, you experience all of these things, except with actual students. However, it can prepare you for how you may address a certain situation in the classroom when you are the main one in charge. It may also illustrate just how nerve-racking it can be in the classroom when you first begin. Although, I have yet to experience that feeling in the actual classroom.
InTASC Standard 8: Instructional Strategies
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop a deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
This artifact is evidence of growth in this standard because the student teacher displays encouragement and guidance throughout the lesson while incorporating different teaching techniques to assist the students.
