While many students thrive in Nova Scotia's mainstream public school system, there will always be those who need something a little different to captivate their imaginations and spark their intellects. And as technology and globalization produce enormous changes for society, when appropriate, the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) Alternative/Dual Credit Program model can assist families to prepare their children for an unpredictable future.
An alternative high school is simply a school that doesn't provide a completely traditional learning experience. For some students, alternative high schools fit their personality and learning style much better than traditional high schools. Alternative high school can be a way for these students to achieve graduation success - where they might not otherwise.
The TCRCE Alternative/Dual credit program allows Grade 10-12 students to earn high school credits while also exploring community college in an effort to re-engage the student in education and foster personal achievement. Ultimately, the goal is to produce world citizens who are productively contributing to their community.
Enrollment is limited. Students are considered through a referral process to the Teaching Support Team which is comprised of school counsellors, teachers, administrators, specialists and school consultants.
