Personal Project
September started off on a very positive note. An enthusiastic grade 10 parent group arrived on the morning of September 1st to engage with Ibu Popy, the MYP Personal Project Coordinator, and Ibu Sue, the MYP Coordinator. It was an enjoyable morning with parents participating in discussions and collaborating in groups to envision what they would do for their MYP Personal Project. Parents can continue to follow their child’s progress by following the GJS Personal Project site and weekly planner. Their next big deadline is September 29th to complete their criterion A. Overall, it was an enjoyable event, and I look forward to more occasions to continue to connect with the fantastic family community of GJS!
Service as Action:
September 11-15 saw a flurry of service as action activity from GJS students on their week without walls. Our GJS SA Coordinators, Ibu Muti and Ibu Popy went with many students from grades 8 and 9 to Brite Life. They worked with younger students and participated in many helpful activities. Although this is an IB MYP requirement, many students find service a rewarding part of their educational experience. Students will complete their first reflection on or before October 6th in Managebac. For more service information, please review the GJS Service as Action site.
MYP Core Updates:
Grades 7 and 8 are working on their ATL (Approaches to Learning) communication skills during MYP Core classes. Students will go to the library this week to check out a book. Ask your child what they are reading as they prepare for their Book Talks on October 31st!
Grade 9 MYP Core students are working on their ATL skills of Communication and Research as they learn about a cultural topic of their choice that falls in the MYP Global Context of Personal and Cultural Expression. Students will work on their presentation and listening skills as they support their classmates during MYP Core Class next week. Ask your child what topic they presented!
