Book Week is coming soon! The annual GJS Book Week will be celebrated on Week 3 of term 2, from October 30 to November 3, 2023.
This year's Book Week theme is Read, Grow, Inspire. The theme helps to inspire young readers to get involved, to create excitement around the event of GJS Book Week, and to connect everyone involved in celebrating reading together. We have many fun activities planned for this year’s Book Week, both at school and home.
Before Book Week, there will be competitions for students to participate in. The competitions include Extreme Reading, Video Storytelling, and Class Door decorations. This competition will be held from Monday, October 16, to Friday, October 27. If students would like to join the competitions, they may submit their entries by Friday, October 27 at the latest.
Besides competitions, there are also some classroom activities that will be held to make the Book Week event more exciting and engaging for all GJS communities. The activities include guest speakers, Kahoot quizzes, dress-up day, storytelling, and scavenger hunts. The dress-up day will be held on Tuesday, October 31. Primary students get to dress up as their favorite book character or something related to the Book Week theme. At the same time, Secondary students will be dressing up in Halloween costumes. We also have a three-day Book Fair from Tuesday, October 31 to Thursday, November 2. This Book Fair will provide exciting and high-quality books from various book vendors. Parents are most welcome to join the Book Fair and the dress-up parade at 07:45 a.m. in the Primary playground.
As this year's book week event falls at the same time as Indonesian Day, Secondary students will have some activities that will be combined with Indonesian Day. The activities are quizzes, guest speakers, buddy reading, competitions, etc. All these activities will be conducted in Bahasa Indonesia.
