Length
Reception students had an experience during their school tour to pick three objects with different lengths such as branches, leaves, and stones. Students were very excited to explore and observe things around them. Next, using the ‘treasures’ they found, they measured the objects and found the longest one in the classroom.
Sink or float
To show an understanding of sinking and floating, Reception students engaged in hands-on learning. They explored various objects found in their environment, discussing their predictions about whether each item would float or sink. Following these discussions, they conducted experiments by placing these objects into a small bucket to confirm their hypotheses.
Pak Rully
Reception students have learned to design their playground using hands-on materials. As a continuation, we invited Pak Rully to come to our classroom to make a song related to the lesson learned.
Reading Literacy with Ibu Lavesa
In Literacy, we have been exploring the concepts of print and rhyme. Students have been learning that letters make words and words make sentences. They have also been exploring what makes a rhyme. Another concept that students are learning is that we use pictures to help tell a story. Students look at the pictures on the page and predict what the story will be about. Using the sight word learned, they made a 2-page story of what they like. They are learning to be authors and illustrators. The students enjoy listening to the stories and have started to rely on picture cues to make predictions.

Reading with Parents
This week, Reception students were in for a surprise and were so happy because Ibu Ajeng (Ancita’s mom) came to the classroom and read a storybook in Bahasa Indonesia. Ibu Ajeng read a book entitled “Belanja bersama ayah”. Reception students sat and listened to the story attentively. They made connections to their own experiences when they accompanied their parents for grocery shopping. Reception students have learned that they need to stay with their parents for safety when they are in public places such as supermarkets, malls, and airports.
