“ The only thing that really matters in life are your relationships to other people.” George Vaillant
People in our lives:
Year 1 Assembly
As Bruno Mars once sang, ‘You can count on me!’ During our introduction to Year 1’s second unit of inquiry ‘Who We Are’, the students discussed the people who they count on; the people who they have relationships with. The results of these discussions formed the basis of our assembly on Friday, 22nd September. The students were communicators by confidently playing the role of the various people in their lives.
If you have yet to see their amazing performance, please check it out on the school’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL5DNSchRvo
Relationship Flower
Expanding on the student’s initial ideas, the students then created relationship flowers, where they wrote the name of a person or people they have a relationship with (for example brother, teachers etc.) on each petal. The students then made connections between the person or people and the things they do with them.
Find a friend …
The aim of the activity was for the Year 1 students to find someone who had the same favourites as themselves. They used their communication skills to ask questions and listen to their friends’ responses. It was also a great opportunity for the students to come together as a whole year group.
Below are some of the learning statements the students completed after the activity.
