Dear Secondary Community,
At Global Jaya, we take pride in our active, engaging, and student focused community. Our students consistently participate in various opportunities to learn and grow–both in the classroom and outside of the classroom. This commitment to our students is ever present due Global Jaya’s vision and mission, which we live and breathe every day. In athletics, for example, our boys and girls teams participating in volleyball, basketball, and soccer truly demonstrate a commitment to our focus on equipping students “to participate in the international community as team members and leaders.” Our recent Week Without Walls trips not only offered our students the opportunity to take part in new experiences outside of their comfort zone, but the trips enabled our students to be “creative problem solvers with a broad perspective of the world around them.”
Numerous other examples of our vision and mission emerge through students participation in ASAs, and the upcoming trip to Yale for the World Scholars Cup, or service as action and Creativity Activity and Service, and, of course, the continued commitment to excellence in the classroom. Overall, this holistic opportunity enables our students to seamlessly enter an unpredictable world prepared to make a positive contribution in society. I draw attention to our vision and mission because I believe it’s always important to take stock of where we are as an institution and how our commitment to our values comes to life in practical terms. The past two months of school have been busy, wonderful, and full of a variety of opportunities for our students, and I look forward to an enriched journey ahead.
As you look to the next few weeks of school, please be aware of the following key dates:
28 September: Prophet’s Birthday, no school for students and teachers
4 October: Secondary Athletics Carnival
4 October: Term 1 Reports are published by 16.00 in Managebac
5-6 October: Mid Semester Conferences (MSC)
9-13 October: Term Break (No school for students and teachers)
16 October: Full day of school for students and staff
Finally, please take time to read through the tips for successful Mid Semester Conferences (MSCs).
MSCs are most successful when they are focused on the student/child, not on the class.
MSCs are most successful when they are a conversation between teachers, students, and parents.
MSCs are most successful when teachers, students, and parents have all read the child’s report. For Years 7-11, this means all parties have a good understanding of the child’s learning and goals for the year. For Year 12, this means all parties know the child’s strengths, areas for improvement, and specific steps to achieve that improvement.
MSCs are most successful when there is a strong emphasis on how the child can improve, and not just what the child can improve.
Enjoy the day and the opportunity to engage in conversations about learning!
If we do not have the opportunity to see you at MSCs, whether you find yourself in the Greater Jakarta area, or you are traveling, we wish you a happy, restful, and healthy term break. We look forward to seeing everybody soon.
Kind regards,
Pak Howard Menand and Pak Edi Sunarya
