On Wednesday, 11 September 2024, we presented our project to show our understanding of what we learned this unit. We divided the classes into groups and created a role play that showed conflicts and some strategies to resolve them. In this activity, we must showed our ability to collaborate and cooperate with our peers, prepared props, created story lines with plausible plot arcs, and rehearsed.
During the role-play, we practiced our communication skills by performing confidently with a clear voice. Also, we practiced our listening skills by paying attention to our friend’s skits and being good team members.. After the performance, we asked the performers questions and gave feedback using the compliment sandwich strategy. It means starting with a compliment, giving a suggestion, and ending with a compliment. We also showed that we were risk-takers by exuding confidence in performing in front of our friends and teachers.
At the end of the activity, we wrote a peer assessment and self-reflection in our classwork on Google Classroom.
For the provocation of this unit on Wednesday, 20 September 2024, we watched two episodes of a documentary series called “Our Planet”, by David Attenborough on different biomes around the globe and how human activity has affected them. We followed up this activity with reflection questions and class conversations focused around biomes and how we can understand them better moving forward. We also did a K.W.L chart (what we know, what we want to know, and what we learned) to asses our prior knowledge in this area.
We have listened to some direct instructions regarding six different land biomes. Eventually, we will choose our favorite biome and do a deep dive into our understanding of it. For our writing in English this unit, we will do a research paper on our chosen biome. This will require us to hone our research skills and our ability to synthesize information. We will also present all that we learned about our biome and showcase our knowledge in a mini-exhibition.
