The Teacher’s Admirer
Education in Indonesia always refers to the figure of Ki Hajar Dewantara. His motto has become a guidance for teachers in Indonesia, which is "Ing Ngarso Sung Tulodo, Ing Madyo Mangun Karso, Tut Wuri Handayani". Ing Ngarso Sung Tulodo means a teacher is a figure who gives an example; Ing Madyo Mangun Karso means a teacher is a figure who gives encouragement; Tut Wuri Handayani means a teacher is a figure who always keeps the student’s spirit high while watching over the student’s growth.
The motto is in line with the philosophy of the IB curriculum - which puts the students at the center of learning which provides them with the opportunities to achieve their best. The teachers then become the facilitators that support each student to reach their goal.
Global Jaya School teachers also put the students at the center of learning which can be seen from the articles of Year 10 students below.
Ida Ayu Indira Pratiwi 10A
Hello! My name is Indira and I am from year 10A. I have been in Global Jaya for 10 years now. The part I like about GJS is probably that us students are much more “free” in a way and are allowed to explore things that we are interested in. This could be in forms of the type of subjects we get to choose from such as the arts (instrumental music, vocals, visual arts, film, drama) We can also choose if we would like to learn a design subject (product, fashion, digital) or a third language (Mandarin, Spanish, Korean). I really like the choices available as it helps me to take a break from the normal 5 core subjects which are Math, English, Science, Bahasa Indonesia and IS (Individual and Societies).
There are a lot of types of teachers that I have encountered throughout my 10 years here in Global Jaya School; there are the strict but kind teachers, fun teachers, and many more. A characteristic that the GJS teachers have that supports my learning is being warm and open to the students. I think this is important as when I have an open and warm teacher it makes me want to participate in class and ask questions which will help me when I struggle with work or assignments. The type of teacher that I really admire are teachers who make their lessons super fun with various activities, these activities could be kahoot or different types of group activities which are always fun to do. I think a teacher that fits the description above is my instrumental music teacher, Pak Eric. Pak Eric has taught me since year 7 and I have always found his class very fun and interesting. He made it very fun as he is a very fun person and he makes each class really different with the various activities that we have to do. We had activities where we had to sort music or create music with friends and that was really fun. He is also very open to questions as he likes being asked questions and he always tries his best to answer all of them.

Sophia Rebecca Albeck 10B
Hi! I am Rebecca from year 10B and I have been in Global Jaya for 4 years. I started going to Gjs from year 7. The part of GJS I like the most is the library and soccer field because I like to be able to focus when doing work or be active in the fields with my friends. The teachers' characteristics that can help support my learning are teachers who are willing to help me by giving me as much help as possible such as audio, visual and other types of learning that will help me improve on a certain subject. Teachers that are also very patient and who are easy to understand makes me want to learn from them and with them. Honestly, I admire every single teacher of GJS because they have different characteristics to support their students' work. If I had to choose one Year 10 teacher that fits my previous description is Ibu Mariani. She has been my teacher in GJS for 4 years straight and I am very happy for her to be my Religion teacher. She is very patient, easy to understand and is always forgiving. Sometimes I slip her subject under my other work but she still gives me a chance to do my work on her subject. This makes me happy because the next time she gives me a task I would immediately do it.
Amina Alegria Anandias Hindarto 10C
Hi my name is Amina from 10C and I've been in Global Jaya for about 10 years, since I was a year one student. The thing I like the most about GJS is the soccer field and the support from everyone. I’ve been on the soccer team since year 2 and I have a lot of memories playing goalkeeper in the soccer field, getting all muddy and having balls kicked towards my face.
Apart from that, everyone in Global is super helpful and I think it really strengthens the bond between you and the community. Teachers are fundamental in helping us learn and such, but for me, the characteristics to make a teacher enjoyable are most likely teachers who make the lessons fun or are genuinely fun people to be around. The types of GJS teachers I admire are teachers who you could kinda call a friend, like you have reasons to talk about non-school related topics with them (for example: anime, gaming, etc). A lot of teachers I know fit that description but if I had to pick one, it’d probably be Pak Alan, my design teacher. He’s known me since year 7 and we often talk about cosplaying and conventions often. He’s very supportive of my cosplay hobby and my passion for fashion design and gives me great feedback so I can get the highest marks.

Gusti Akbar Priabudi 10D
Hello! My name is Gusti Akbar Priabudi. You can call me Gusti, I’m from 10D, and it’s my third year in Global Jaya School since I enrolled here in year 8. The part of GJS school I like most is the students and teachers since they are part of the school; all of them are very kind, open, and knowledgeable, especially the people associated with my year based on experiences so far. Everyone has helped me adapt to school since my first year and have helped me to understand the topics further in every subject.
Regarding the kind of teacher’s characteristics that would most effectively support my learning would be a teacher with similar interests and personality since they are easier to approach. However, throughout all the teachers that I have experienced as a student, their teaching methods are effective, and they were very open to me. Thus I was able to understand their lessons properly. The example of a teacher who most effectively supported my learning would be Pak Aryo because his class is one of my interests in Design Communication. Like me, he is very relaxed and calm but serious in-class, which makes Pak Aryo easier to approach. Additionally, I have been with Pak Aryo even since my first year, and his teaching style is engaging, optimistic, and calm, which makes the class natural.
