On August 30th, I had the opportunity to explore what it means to have a growth mindset with the Year 4 students. In order to do that, we explored the importance of being self aware. The core of self-awareness is the ability to self-reflect. I conducted some activities that allowed the students to explore things from multiple perspectives.
I also created an activity that was designed to make the students fail! The idea of teaching the students to fail may seem absurd. But as a school, we would like to encourage the students that failing is not something to be avoided or to be ashamed of. In life, we need to take risks in order to grow as a person.
Growth only happens when we venture out of our comfort zone. We explored questions that started with “how” and “what”. “How did it happen?” “What went wrong?” “What was I experiencing at that time”? “What skills and knowledge do I need to acquire to ensure this doesn’t happen again?”
Hence, this kind of introspection allowed the students to look at the behaviours and beliefs of who they were. With self-awareness, the students were taught to learn to move on. The students were encouraged to ask the right questions that will allow them to make different choices that will bring a different result.

Guest Speaker
On Wednesday, 14th of September. Year 4 has a guest speaker named Bapak Haris Sahlan. He is one of the year 4A parents. Pak Haris explained renewable and nonrenewable sources and alternative energy-related to unit two, “Sharing the Planet.”
Pak Haris also shared with us his works at the oil company/ oil station named Shell. We have learned a lot about alternative energy: wind energy, water energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, and biomass energy.
We have an opportunity to ask some questions. Asking and answering questions about the company, alternative energy, using limited resources wisely, and sustaining nonrenewable energy. Thank you, Pak Haris, for sharing lots of knowledge with us.
