Hello Secondary parents, students, staff and other community members! Week one of blended learning is in the books and what a wonderful week Week one was! We cannot express how much we have enjoyed having students back on campus. It is said that a smile of true happiness is seen in the eyes and we have seen a lot of smiling eyes around campus these last couple of weeks. The positive energy is palpable as we greet students in the morning, speak with them in the halls, and say our goodbyes in the afternoon. We are off to a great start and we get to do it all over again with students in the even group next week.
Speaking of next week, Mid Semester Conferences (MSC) will be held on Thursday 7 October and Friday 8 October. We will send further information about MSC on Monday 4 October, including all of our teachers’ Google Meet links and tips for organizing your day(s). If you missed the window to sign up for MSC, we are unable to accommodate any more requests for meetings this term; however, you can contact the Secondary office to set up meetings when we return from the Term Break.
Speaking of returning from the Term Break, our first week back will be an ODD week in more ways than one.
Not only will it be the second on-campus week with our ODD blended learning group, but the schedule is also a bit unusual. Monday 18 October is a day off for students, while staff engage in professional learning. Tuesday is a normal school day. Wednesday is a school holiday in recognition of the Prophet’s Birthday. Thursday and Friday are normal school days.
Speaking of normal school days, we understand that blended learning is far from what we once recognized as “normal” school. Our teachers have been working hard, both behind the scenes and within their lessons, to develop solutions to unique challenges. We all owe them a great deal of thanks for their efforts to ensure that learning continues for all students, whether on campus or at home. Our students are once again facing a new challenge to their learning, having to adapt to shifting timetables, new on-campus expectations, and continuing uncertainty about when we will be back to “normal-normal.” We also owe them a great deal of thanks and appreciation for their continued resilience and adaptability. Lastly, thank you to our parents for your continued support, understanding, and trust in our processes.
If you have not already done so, please read Pak Cory’s message for the entire community for further information about antigen testing requirements, odd/even schedules, alumni events and other reminders. Until we see, speak, or otherwise correspond with you again, we wish you all happiness, safety, health and a restful Term Break.
