Dear Parents,
Since our last August Kontak newsletter, we have made great strides in readjusting to teaching and learning on, and from, the GJS campus. One week of faculty reorientation, followed by one week of student reorientation, laid the groundwork for the most successful launch of Blended Learning. We have 73% of Kindergarten through Year 12 students with parent permission to partake in on-campus activities, 77% of eligible students and 98% of faculty/staff are fully vaccinated. All positively trending results. These past few weeks, our faculty and students have engaged with our protocols, built awareness of their surroundings and have begun interacting with each other. Starting with the expected trepidation and shyness of first encounters, we continue to build our rapport, trust and sense of understanding and habit about what our responsibilities are that will help keep our students and faculty safe, healthy and secure.
I am extremely proud of the ongoing efforts of our faculty, students and parents as we work together, communicating, collaborating, and supporting each other as we transition into a new way of functioning as a school and a community. Please see below for images captured with the arrival of students onto our campus. Likewise, following us on our gjs_society Instagram and Facebook social media accounts will help visualize the sights and sounds of the past few weeks! It has been so very good having both our students and faculty back at GJS.
We initiated our Odd and Even weeks of on-campus attendance this week. Next week (October 4 - 8) is EVEN, the week we return after the Term break (October 18 - 22) will be ODD. Please see the tables below, which details our campus rotation information for the remainder of Semester 1 and the start of Semester 2.
PLEASE NOTE: We have planned a "circuit-breaker" week for when we return from Semester Break. During the week of January 10 - 14, all classes for Kindy through Year 12 will be delivered in the Synchronous Home Learning (SHL) format for all students regardless of their odd / even on-campus participation. This will afford us certainly that when we resume Blended Learning on campus that all travellers, both inside and outside of Indonesia, would have completed quarantine if needed, secured negative test results and are clear and safe to return to campus.
Oct 7 - 8: Mid Semester Conferences
Oct 9 - 17: Term Break
Oct 18: Full Faculty PD Day (No Class for Students)
Oct 19: Full Day for Students
Oct 20: Prophet's Birthday Holiday
Oct 26: Social Emotional Workshop for Parents
We have received several inquiries regarding expectation clarification for student swab antigen testing and certificates. Two points are in need of being reiterated:
1) We have adjusted our Return to Campus Plan, specifically pages 4-5, where ongoing swab antigen testing is now mentioned. The wording is as follows:
GJS Students must present negative swab antigen test certificates obtained no more than 2 x 24 hours before each of their on-campus weeks of Blended Learning.
All community members must clearly understand that students who arrive at campus without proof of their negative swab antigen test certificate obtained no more than 2 x 24 hours prior, or their signed confirmation letter will not be permitted to enter campus and will be sent home.
2) We have been asked about Rapid Antigen Testing versus Swab Antigen Testing. After consultation with our medical staff, it has been confirmed that these are indeed THE SAME test, simply called different names depending upon the manufacturer of the test kit. Both rapid antigen and swab antigen tests are nasopharyngeal swab tests that give results in a short period of time. Rapid antibody test results are NOT ACCEPTED.
After more than a year of planning and consulting with a core group of enthusiastic and motivated GJS graduates, we have officially launched the Global Jaya Alumni Association. The GJAA seeks to be an active and engaged group, dedicated to building relationships amongst students, past and present, through the development of opportunities for collaboration, mentoring and celebration.
We have developed and published a GJS Social Network platform that allows alumni, to register and reconnect with GJS as a school but also with former friends and classmates. Ultimately this platform will also be open to students in years 10 -12 as we seek to build engagement between former and current GJS students. Through this platform, and with the growing support by the Alumni themselves, we will seek to form a leadership group that will ultimately allow the GJS Alumni Association to stand as a self-propagating organization within the GJS community. If your sons and daughters are former students or graduates of GJS, please encourage them to register at https://alumni.globaljaya.com
With the recent launch of our GJS Alumni Association and portal, we are planning our first event, Global Connect 2021 to be held virtually from December 6th to the 10th, 2021. We aim to bring together GJS alumni, members of our parent community, members of Faculty as well as our current GJS Year 10, 11 and 12 students in a week of sharing and dialogue.
Our goal is to leverage the experiences and successes of our alumni and parents, as well as members of our Student Success Team, to provide informative workshop sessions, podcast sessions, and Question and Answer panels that will enlighten and support our students as they engage in their own university and career planning efforts.
The sessions for the week will be organized through 3 major themes:
1) University Experiences as a GJS alumni
2) Career Pathways
3) University Application Process and Scholarships
Participation from alumni and parent stakeholders will be very important and valuable to us. Please complete and submit THIS form with your information if you wish to share your story and experiences with our current GJS students.

We want to continue to remind everyone to abide by the requirements to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay positive.
Warm Regards,
Cory Carson
