Year 12

Academic struggles are a perpetual problem that plagues pupils. Difficulties with understanding the topic, coupled with the overwhelming tasks for the subject, are a major issue that we all want to avoid. For that, we are proud to introduce the Student Ambassador Program, a student-to-student programme that aims to assist MYP students in their core classes: English LL/LA, Bahasa Indonesia LL/LA, Math, Science and Individuals and Societies. The Student Ambassador Programme is currently run by Chiara, Tiara and Luna from Year 12. Our goal is to let students support their fellow peers to be able to achieve their highest potential and strengthen their understanding in their chosen subject. Mentors support their mentees’ knowledge through continuous guidance throughout the subject syllabus, providing feedback, and sharing both of their personal experience to create personalized lessons that ensures the best performance of the students.

Tutoring offers a number of benefits against such struggles.

• Having a tutor will allow more personalized helping materials.

It will help the students grow and develop the knowledge at their own pace. Tutor sessions are especially designed to individual student experiences and areas of growth.

• Similar experiences lead to a better connection.

Tutors are able to discuss more of the struggles encountered in the subject, creating a shared understanding of the specific difficulties the student might face. This allows the pair to form a better partnership that allows the lessons to run smoothly.

• Help improve self-responsibility.

Tutors would not only help their students to learn the subject but also the methods used to approach new material in the future, developing their organizational and critical thinking skills.

For this, The Student Ambassador Programme (SAP) provides:

• Weekly tutoring sessions with GJS students (tutors will be around 2 years older than the mentees)

• Topic review before tests

• Presentation practice

• Essay revision

• Exam practice, tips, and tricks

Ultimately, our aim is to help the mentees gain a deeper understanding on the topic and prepare students to face any challenges in the chosen subject.
