Greetings to the Global Jaya Secondary Community from the Secondary Student Council,
After months of preparation paired with tiring yet thrilling journeys, the Global Jaya Secondary Student Council (StuCo) has successfully held HawksCup 2024 from October 30th to November 3rd! HawksCup is an annual, student-driven celebration that brings together athleticism, arts, and academics in an inspiring showcase of talent and unity. Designed to foster a deep sense of community and inclusiveness among the vibrant student bodies across Jakarta and Tangerang, HawksCup offers a unique platform for students to shine. Here, exceptional talents take center stage as schools come together to create a supportive and energetic atmosphere. This year, we’re excited to expand our horizons beyond sports, embracing the rich diversity of academic and artistic achievements.
Aside from providing a vessel for various schools across the Jabodetabek region to unite, the event’s impressive scale and seamless organization brought together students from year 7 to year 12, fostering harmony amidst the chaos. This event empowered not only StuCo members but also the 50 student volunteers who took the initiative to participate in the student body. In total, 120 crew members were led by overall PICs Olga Wiyar Haksami from 12D and Nadindra Selativa A. from 12A who could not have successfully executed this event without the phenomenal StuCo executive members who were appointed as PICs (person-in-charge) of various divisions.
Students took on roles as players, coordinators, and even supporters, demonstrating exceptional teamwork. The vibrant atmosphere was elevated by the wide selection of food vendors and enthusiastic audience, including parents and students from the participating schools, further enhancing the community spirit.
The sports competitions, including basketball, soccer, and volleyball, were among the most thrilling and exciting parts of HawksCup. Students from various schools competed fiercely, showing hard work and competitive team spirit while maintaining sportsmanship. These events not only highlighted the students’ athletic abilities but also showcased the power of sports and how they can bring people together, creating a sense of community among participants and audiences.
In addition to sports, the dance competition was a lively celebration of creativity and expression. Teams came together to perform choreographed routines that combined energy, precision, and artistry. The dancers also demonstrated their ability to engage the audience and tell a story through dance movements, making the competition an unforgettable experience that left the audience in awe.
The Model United Nations (MUN) conferences were another remarkable success, where students acted as diplomats, debating global issues with poise and intelligence. There were a total of 6 councils and 200 delegates participating in the conference for two days, followed by an amazing award ceremony at the theatre.
The five days of HawksCup were a whirlwind of excitement, filled with joy, unity, vibrancy, and boundless energy. Despite the immense effort dedicated to organizing the event, flaws will inevitably sprout. Yet, none of these setbacks deterred our spirit or momentum. The first two days proved to be the most challenging, as this was the year 12’s first time hosting an event of this magnitude. Our challenges spanned across various areas, including liaison officers, security, ticketing, consumption, sponsorships, competitions, and finances. However, these challenges became valuable lessons that strengthened our solidarity and brought the team closer together.
On behalf of the Student Council, we would like to extend our greatest appreciation and gratitude to all who participated in organizing HawksCup 2024. We are eternally grateful for the help and support that everyone has offered, and, most importantly, we hope that HawksCup not only serves as a platform for students to showcase their talents but also a platform to learn new skills and experiences that foster a deeper sense of school spirit and togetherness. May the skills you’ve honed, the experiences you’ve shared, and the bonds you’ve forged remain cherished and unforgettable.

For the past five years, Halloween Movie Night has been an event that made every Halloween memorable for the secondary students of Global Jaya School. On November 8, 2024, the Secondary Student Council executed our annual Halloween Movie Night event. Although the event took place quite long after Halloween due to our recently completed HawksCup, it still did not fail to unite nearly 200 secondary students over an activity that has, over time, become a tradition. This year, we combined the movie night with a horror maze, along with a photo booth, to further escalate the fun of the season. Indeed, our event would not be complete with the PTA bazaar either, ensuring we all had delicious food to enjoy.
As a whole, our movie night this year was packaged in the Indonesian theme, “Serat Sunyi: Scares From The Motherland.” We made sure to celebrate our culture while maintaining international-mindedness in the Halloween season.
The event itself took place from 04:00 to 08:00 PM, where for two hours before the start of the movie, students were able to explore the PTA bazaar in Plaza A, take pictures with friends at our photobooth in front of the admin building, and of course, take turns to venture through our horror maze in the MPH foyer. The maze itself was haunting, being well-decorated by our maze team, and having an atmosphere that was elevated by the Indonesian gamelan music that rang through the air as students were called to solve the disappearance of Alea and Dewi, two students who went missing without a trace. Their last known location was an abandoned school. As they entered, they found whispers and eyes
watching the, from every corner, experiencing encounters with our talented maze actors, embodying spirits in the Indonesian horror characters: Pocong, Suster Ngesot, Kuntilanak, and Genderuwo. Let’s say, they were indeed able to get a warm up of scares before starting to watch the movie.
At 5:45 PM, we began to welcome students into our movie viewing room– the MPH. We watched the film, “Keramat (2009),” an Indonesian horror film shot in the ‘found footage’ style. Directed by Monty Tiwa, the film follows a film production crew traveling to Yogyakarta to shoot a movie. As they begin filming, strange and supernatural occurrences start to disrupt the production, leading to increasingly terrifying events. The film is known for its authentic portrayal of traditional Indonesian supernatural beliefs and rituals, creating a unique and unsettling atmosphere. The ‘found footage’ style adds to the sense of realism, immersing our students in the terrifying experiences of the characters. This way, cultural insight was still gained amidst a fun bonding activity. We ended our event at 8:00 PM, sending students off home safely, all with the help of the support staff and school security.
In its preparation, the student council looked forward to planning a well-running Halloween Movie Night, and yet, with the wonderful results of this year’s event, we now realize that we have contributed to perpetuating this tradition for our school. We would like to thank Ibu Widya, the Student Council supervisor, all school leadership and teachers involved supervising this event, support staff for their hard work and readiness to assist the Student Council, parents for their kind support, and of course, students, for their contribution to our event, whether it be as participants or organizers. We apologize for any shortcomings, and we are looking forward to seeing you at next year’s Halloween Movie Night!
