On November 20th, at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the Year 6 teachers eagerly waited at the gate for their students to arrive. Our flight was scheduled to depart at 7:45 AM. As students trickled in one by one, we couldn’t help but feel the excitement building for the trip ahead. While waiting, we spent 30 minutes playing games and socializing to pass the time.
We boarded a Garuda Airlines flight and enjoyed a smooth one-and-a-half-hour journey. During the flight, the pilot gave a special acknowledgment to our school camp, which made us feel proud. We landed at Yogyakarta Airport at 9:15 AM. After landing, we spent 45 minutes claiming our baggage, taking photos, and making quick calls to our parents.
Next, we boarded a bus for a two-hour ride. During the journey, some of us slept, others read or played games, but karaoke quickly became the favorite activity. Finally, we stopped for supper at Ramashinta Resto, where we spent an hour enjoying traditional food and playing games to keep the energy alive.
Our next stop was the Ullen Sentalu Museum, where we immersed ourselves in the history and culture of Yogyakarta. We learned about the region’s royal heritage, its distinct clothing styles, and how they differed from those of Surakarta. The museum offered a fascinating glimpse into life in the past, with stories about Yogyakarta’s monarchs and cultural traditions.
After the museum visit, we headed to our hotel, Melia Purosani, which left us in awe with its elegance. Once we settled into our rooms and unpacked, we regrouped downstairs for dinner and took time to reflect on the day by filling out our trip booklets.
On day 2, we had such an exciting and fun trip. The day focused primarily on art or entertainment, which might be the most enjoyable day and activities for some people. It might also have been the most tiring day for some people.
Firstly, up in the morning, we had breakfast after a tiring day of checking in the hotel and going to the museum. It was the first day we went into our room, and it was magnificent! So, we had some yummy breakfast to make us feel energetic and prepare for the day for some tiring activities. After we all ate up with our groups, Pak Casey, our teacher, invited us to play in the hotel's outdoor area. After eating, we had a great time; there was a vast playground, too. The outdoor area was right next to the pool. We played fun activities such as infection tag and raven vs crows. That had us prepared for the day!
We went to Museumku Gerabah to create pottery. While on the bus, we looked outside the window and experienced Yogyakarta. We ate some snacks and sang karaoke. Finally, we spotted and got nearer our destination. We entered a town where our eyes spotted many people selling pottery! There was a history of the city that its specialty was creating pottery! The town’s name is Desa Wisata Gerabah Kasongan. We went inside the village; many amazing pottery creations had many details. Finally, we entered MuseumKu Gerabah.
Inside, they greeted us kindly, and we took a photo with everyone for the first activity. They greeted us and introduced themselves and what activity we would be doing. Firstly, we went inside a museum to tell us the history of the place and the village. Many pottery artworks inspired us to make. After going to the museum, we started creating our pottery. There was a guide to help us since this was the first time creating pottery for most of us. We expressed our creativity through what we made and learned a lot of new things. For example, they had to burn and warm it with coal to dry the pottery. We also placed our specialty and creativity on our pottery to specialize and mark it as ours. We finished up with our artwork, and the staff prepared food/lunch for us. After we ate, we had a brain break, and they had a game for us: Rock Paper Scissors—girls vs Boys, and the punishment was to dance in front of everyone. In the end, the girls won because they tricked the boys smartly!
We painted pottery for the last activity in MuseumKu Gerabah, and many of us decided to create abstract art. We finished and then went on the bus again for our next destination.
On our way, we experienced some inconvenience on the bus, so we had to walk to the building. We entered the building and took a picture. Then, we headed to the big stage, where the staff awaited us. They introduced themselves uniquely using art, and we made our way after they chose our groups. There was Pencaksilat, music, and a drama. All the groups practiced for a long time, and after we prepared, we showcased what we learned to everyone on the big stage. We shared our experiences while learning and practicing, and as it was hot, everyone got tired and sweaty. It started raining when we had almost finished our performances.
