Year 6 students had their first mentor meeting this week. I was excited to meet my mentor. She was informative and calm, which made the session very productive and insightful.
During the 30-minute meeting, we briefly discussed my exhibition topic, Italian Cuisine, and explored some essential questions related to the project. I shared my progress so far and brought up a few challenges I have encountered. My mentor offered valuable insights and practical suggestions that gave me greater clarity on the next steps.
The meeting was informative, engaging, and a great start to the mentorship process. I am looking forward to our next meeting on Thursday, where I plan to continue refining my ideas and making progress on my working report.
We have been hard at work preparing a special dance for the opening performance of the PYP Exhibition. Each class began by creating its own unique dance movements. In 6A, we worked together to develop creative ideas and turned them into a full dance, while 6B did the same.
Once our dances were complete, we started learning each other’s movements. This is essential because, for the Silek dance, both classes need to combine their routines into one unified performance. Hilman and Rava are leading the process: Hilman is teaching 6A the 6B dance, while Rava is teaching 6B the 6A dance. It’s been fun and challenging, but we are making great progress.
In addition to the dance, some students are learning to play traditional instruments for the performance. They have been practicing with Ibu Nadia during and after school to ensure the music is ready. The instruments will add excitement and cultural depth to the performance.
Overall, preparing for the performance has been an amazing experience. We are learning to work as a team, share ideas, and support one another throughout the process.
On Friday, January 10, 2025, Year 6 students proudly showcased their creative discoveries during the culminating event for the How We Express Ourselves unit. This six-week exploration emphasized the importance of creative expression in fostering well-being and cultivating a positive sense of personal identity.
Students presented an impressive array of artistic works, including visual art, music, dance, photography, film, and song remakes. Each project uniquely reflected the students' identities and highlighted the powerful connection between creative expression and emotional well-being.
The Mini Expo provided a wonderful opportunity for the school community to celebrate the students' creativity and insights. Following the event, students returned to class to reflect on their experiences and consider how these learnings will inform their upcoming PYP Exhibition journey.
