The Year 2 students have begun an exciting new unit on plants and ecosystems, tied to the transdisciplinary theme "Sharing the Planet." This marks their fourth unit of inquiry for Semester 2 and promises to be a meaningful exploration of how we interact with and care for the natural world.
To introduce this unit, students participated in an exploratory activity around the school grounds, observing and identifying various plants in their environment. They were prompted to inquire about the names, shapes, functions, and locations of the plants they encountered.
Upon returning to the classroom, a meaningful discussion ensued regarding the interrelationships among plants, humans, and the broader environment. This inquiry-driven approach not only fosters a deeper understanding of ecological systems but also encourages students to appreciate their role within these systems.
On Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025, the Year 2 students went on an exciting field trip to Taman Buah Mekarsari in Cileungsi. They were thrilled to explore the park’s natural beauty and take part in fun, hands-on activities that made their learning even more engaging and memorable.
During the trip, students expressed their creativity by painting farmer caps with vibrant watercolors. They also had the opportunity to interact with a range of animals, including hedgehogs, rabbits, goats, birds, fish, and chickens, deepening their understanding of animal care and responsibility.
A highlight of the day was when each student got to plant their own tomato or chili plant, which they were excited to take home. This activity helped them build a personal connection to the environment while learning about the importance of caring for plants. The field trip was a meaningful part of their learning journey, encouraging them to understand their role in maintaining a balanced ecosystem and fostering a sense of environmental responsibility.
