On Thursday 12th January, we were privileged to host a presentation and a panel discussion led by Harvard students Kelly Kim and Libby Wu.
Interested parents and students listened as Kelly and Libby talked us through their experiences and shared their top tips for winning at college admissions.
Parents and students had the opportunity to ask questions in order to understand how best to position themselves to submit competitive university applications.
“Throughout my experience of participating in the Harvard Crimson Leadership Academy, I was able to learn crucial skills as well as gain college-level feedback and information. I felt that it was a forum where I was always supported, heard, and appreciated. Because of this, I felt pushed to participate and contribute my best insight to the dedicated group of students in the room. My group focused on the topic of unsustainable farming and combated it with an approach using biomethane energy (sourced from cow feces.) It gave me an incredible opportunity to showcase my skills in solution building, teamwork, persuasive speaking, and writing. Thanks to the constructive feedback of the Harvard mentors, we were able to deliver our final presentation in detail, and I felt confident on stage communicating my knowledge of the issue and the solution. I'm also very grateful to have received continued mentorship from the Harvard Crimson!” Anika Siahaan
Partnering with the team from Learn with Leaders, we were proud to host our very first Harvard Crimson Leadership Academy at Global Jaya, between 13th - 15th January 2023.
Four current Harvard graduate students delivered a three day programme to 58 students from years 8 - 12. Over the course of the three days, the students identified an important global issue and worked with the Harvard mentors to hone the skills and techniques necessary to build a persuasive ‘Ted-talk’ style presentation, delivered to interested parents on the final day. If you would like to check out their culminating projects, the presentations are available on the GJS Youtube channel.
"The Harvard Crimson Leadership Academy provides me opportunities to learn lots of academic knowledge integrated with many life lessons. During the learning sessions, I could make many new friends from different grades and schools. Joining this program was an excellent way to refine my persuasive writing and presentation skills. Collaborating with new friends and lately presenting our team works in the theatre was a proud moment. Overall, this program was one of the best events I have participated in ever." Advik Parashar
During their time with our students the Harvard mentors were looking out for up to four students who they felt consistently excelled throughout the Academy. The following four students were selected for their critical and creative thinking, their communication skills, their thoughtfulness and their overall leadership skills.
The following students were selected by the Mentors and will receive continued support and guidance in the coming months.
Anika Siahaan (year 9)
Advik Parashar (year 9)
