Service as Action is a core component of the Middle Years Programme. Students experiment with different ways in which they can make a positive difference to a community. The process of completing Service as Action projects supports students to develop their identity, their confidence as well as helping them to find their voice.
In this edition, year nine students would like to share their experience with Service as Action Projects. There are many fantastic SA projects. Below, we provide a brief snapshot into some of the great ideas initiated by the students:
Student A
My project is to help the children in an orphanage by giving them supplies and if possible donations too, like old toys that I used to play with.
Student B
My project is a social media account that promotes a healthy lifestyle during the pandemic. We do this by creating healthy diets, exercise plans, and what you should do during quarantine that can help you maintain a healthy body.
Student C
We collect money and buy food to give out to people on the side of the roads.
Student D
We are raising funds to buy food for the people in need. We went around the city and gave the people on the streets food.
Student E
I have been working with Muliantara to teach English to kids in Menarbu, West Papua.
Student F
I have been donating masks to an orphanage.
Student G
I have been donating money and hygienic items to an orphanage.
Student H
We fundraised money to create food and health packages. These were then donated to the underprivileged people in Jakarta and those in need.
Student I
My project is donating to people via stream. I find a streamer that plays games and I donate some money to them.
Student J
I give out masks and hand sanitizers to people in need. I gave it to the people in need that I met in the street.
Student K
Our project is focusing on the theme of environmental health, and our plan initiates reducing plastic waste and bottles. We involve the community by collecting plastic bottles, which then get recycled into more beneficial and reusable objects (like laptop cases, tote bags, coffee sleeves, pet beds, and more).
Student L
I am entertaining patients, especially Covid patients in Yarsi Hospital. I am entertaining by performing a music cover with the song called Heaven by Bryan Adams.
Student M
In my project, I will be raising awareness and educating people about great white sharks. Specifically how they are endangered in the ocean due to water pollution and years of being hunted by man.
Student N
I am donating needed supplies (food, medication, money, etc.) to an orphanage.
Student O
I am distributing health pouches to security guards and gardeners in my housing complex.
