In UOI 4 our transdisciplinary theme is How We Organize Ourselves, and we are going to learn types of government systems. The expected learning outcomes are for us to understand how the government systems work, factors that influence a country’s domestic and international interests, and global issues that need to be resolved through international collaboration.
Year 5 students already had a rotation activity conducted by the year 5 teachers. Every teacher took turns to explain each type of government system. All the year 5 students were divided into small groups. To simplify our understanding of each type of government system, I made a summary of the differences across the government systems.
In UOI 3, we learned about natural resources and different types of them. Each resource has different problems and we needed to figure out solutions for each one. We were asked to focus on one source, and we had to research further about our chosen resources. We needed to figure out how we can solve the problem for our chosen resources? Our teachers created a Google site with all our chosen resources and the people under it, and we had to fill in and include our work in our own sub-page. We had different work included in our own sub-pages, from Bahasa Indonesia, English, Math, Civic, and our main one, UOI.
The Observation Journal is one of the most important tasks on the Google site. We had to answer each question in detail. The Observation Journal has 3 parts, the first is Social Studies. In there we could answer questions like what are the facts, etc. The second one is the Civic part. This topic is about the fifth principle of Pancasila that we had learned during the unit, and what small actions we can do to solve problems with our chosen resource, based on the fifth principle of Pancasila. The third one is the Sustainability Action, where we also do an action to help the issue that’s happening right now with our chosen resources.
In BI, Iklan Layanan Masyarakat, we had to create a PSA poster trying to convince people to help or to do an action with the issue that's happening right now based on your chosen resources. Then there’s English, where we created a research paper that included the introduction, thesis sentence, body, and conclusion. We had to choose a topic about our chosen resource. For English, we also had to interview someone about our chosen resource, so we created questions for them to answer.
Other than that, there’s a sub-page for our art PSA on our Google site. We had to create a PSA video about the 17 UNSDG as the theme for your video, and before creating the PSA video, we had to create a storyboard about the 17 UNSDG that we selected. This Google site is published for everyone around us to see! Please check it out: https://sites.google.com/globaljaya.com/sharing-the-planet/home
During Civics lessons in this unit we learned about Sila ke 4 Pancasila, the examples, the meaning, and more. In each week of the unit we were mostly working as a group and we needed to identify the meanings behind it, and what attitude we should show in certain events. We also had some individual assignments but we had to identify more events and the examples, and we also did a quiz on reviewing our knowledge about sila ke 4 Pancasila.
I think the Learner Profile attribute that we have shown the most is Principled because on both group and individual work we had to think of the attitude or way on what we should do if we were in that event, when we think of what attitude we to show we also had to think of a good way of attitude that can respect and that is fair to the event. And how we apply that is both when we work as a group and an individual. Although in each task we showed a different LP (Learner Profile), Principled is the learner profile we showed the most in my opinion.
The ATL skill that we have shown most in the Civic lessons in this unit is Communication skills because we had to communicate further information and our opinions about it. Since we mostly work as a group, it means that we have to communicate more to get more ideas. We mostly applied this when we had to think of the attitude we should show in a certain event, by communicating we can understand each other's opinion and also telling others if we agree on that idea or not is an important communication skill because it takes tact and patience.

In this lesson we basically first identified the pidato, for example we were split into some groups and we all needed to identify the Video that the teacher gave us, and finally we just write the opening and also the basic paragraphs about the pidato, and we won’t forget about the end too.
Well pidato for me basically means that we have to make a public speech such as when Martin Luther King Jr did a speech about how black men have to be treated the same as white men about the boycott. In a few weeks we also had to write our own pidato about science related issues. We made in the presentation for example on Covid~19, or we can do the related issues of for example, countries like the UK, all about illegal immigrants, so we could write about those topics. For me it's really easy to do this task because all I did was discuss the effects and we were also given websites and video examples. My mom said to write the speech down with voice typing and also manually, and then finally my mom told me to mark the beginning and body text along with the closing and also key words and main words we have to focus about, so I basically referenced the speech that I did last week into my own words and used some to also do my closing speech. My mom also helped me out with spelling mistakes and also sentences that don’t make sense.
And thus far, I think the learner profile depends on the way you learn. For me I learned to be open-minded because my mom helped me and we discussed, and I wrote everything my mom told me to write and also gave some really nice opinions on my speech. The advice here is if you are confused with writing a speech, that's normal because I also had some difficulty with what to write. Sometimes I even did nothing, and also don’t write a long speech, because the reader will not be interested or hooked. You need to have some really catchy words, and effectful words to the reader. If you need help I advise to get any parents help anytime you're stuck or confused on what to write. I think another learner profile is knowledgeable because you have to write about something related and you need to put your prior knowledge and more research to your reader.
Although so far writing a pidato is basically writing a message or basically informing something to your reader or whoever is viewing our speech. Here is mine and my friend’s pidato (speech).
In this unit of social studies we learned about government systems and how they work in different countries. How the lesson worked is we were split into groups, each group represented a different country. The countries were Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, The UK, Greece, and Germany. Since there are 6 countries, 3 would have to make slides about forest fires in their countries and the other 3 would have to make slides about illegal immigrants in their country. We chose those topics after researching issues that affected the countries. Then we had to present it in front of the whole class as a group.
I think the Learner Profile attribute we have shown in this lesson is mostly communication because we had to do this task as a country or as a group so we had to communicate to get this task easily done. We also used Open-Minded, because we had to think of why and how Governments handle or solve a problem and how they communicate through it. So being open minded is also required in this particular task.
In this lesson we also had to know how all of the government systems worked and how they could work in a country. The ways we could apply the Learner Profile attributes is if we worked as a group well. We could call that communicator, and if we share our own opinions well then that's Open-Minded. But we could apply those Learner Profile attributes by doing what the Learner Profile is. So overall In our Social Studies lessons in this unit we learned about how government systems work and how they work in different countries.
