“Only peace can bring us together to a better world.”
This strong message was stated by a young person of today: Kwon Min Woo, one of our GJS Year 11 students. He had the chance to spread this message through the Overseas Youth Picture Contest for Peace and Unification 2021 that was sponsored by the National Unification Advisory Council. Kwon Min Woo was awarded the Grand Prize (Platinum Award), over 1, 910 contestants (Americas, “Awards Ceremony…”).
In 1953, the Korean War divided the Korean Peninsula into South and North. Since then, many families had to be separated and promotion for peace and reunification has been pursued for many years (History.com, “Korean War”).
Although Min Woo is a Korean who was born In Indonesia, he finds that the news regarding South and North Korea relationships always move him. “In this world, we always have the option to develop peace and avoid conflict, “ said Min Woo. “And we, as global citizens, have the voice to ensure that to happen.” He chose the theme of marathon runners as he believes that we are running toward the future. “I wanted to show that through peace and togetherness, we can embrace the future in a better way.”
