Dear Parents,
Since our return from our December semester break, our students and faculty have ramped up efforts in preparation for the various programme exhibitions that comprise a valued component of our student learning journey WHILE providing an opportunity, for all of us as community members, to share, engage with and celebrate their successes and accomplishments. This double edition of the Kontak (covering both January and February) is a very proud demonstration of the inquiry and investigation processes, our students' and facultys' commitment to meaningful and personal learning that results in and growth and development of our students. Please join us in enjoying the exhibitions as well as the other contributions to this month's edition of Kontak.
Our students have been engaged in a number of culminating events that reflect their impressive progress as inquirers. Each of the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes provides our learners with an opportunity to identify areas of keen personal interest upon which they base their specific exhibition or research paper efforts. Below you will find links to two google sites that host this year's Primary Years Programme Exhibition (PYPX2022) and our Middle Years Programme Personal Project Exhibition (PPE2022). A tremendous amount of time, energy and dedication is placed in these events in the best of times, and with current pandemic conditions requiring physical distancing, we have moved the events online. This does not mean the effort required has been reduced, but in actuality markedly increased. We are appreciative and thankful for the support received from parents, faculty, mentors, programme coordinators, administration, and of course, for the tremendous efforts put forth by the students themselves. All participants have had to step up their communication and collaboration efforts to make this all come together as purposefully and successfully as it has.
I highly encourage all community members to view the PYPX2022 opening ceremony, PYPX 2022, MYP Personal Project Exhibition.
Our IBDP Visual Arts Exhibition will take place in March. The exhibition site and details will be shared both via Managebac and in the next edition of Kontak.

Global Jaya School is both authorised, by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), and accredited, by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), for the educational programmes we develop and deliver. Schools that adhere to the IBO and WASC guiding principles, practices and criterion are globally recognised as providers of a high standard of education with graduates that have the necessary skills, attitudes and competencies that allow them to successfully participate in a globalised society. Our alignment with these two organisations ensures that our efforts remain focused on student achievement and continuous school-wide improvement.
We are undertaking a schoolwide self-study in preparation for our upcoming re-authorization / re-accreditation visit which will occur on April 9 - 14, 2023. This process is led by Pak James Merry, our GJS Accreditation Officer, with guidance and support by both the GJS Leadership and Pedagogical Leadership Teams. The self-study process is driven by input from focus groups made up of diverse members representing stakeholder groups within our school community. The groups discuss specific aspects of the school, share their experiences, identify areas of strength as well as suggested areas for improvement. GJS Students and Parents will actively participate in the self-study both through survey completion and also through dedicated focus groups.
The re-authorization and re-accreditation process is a reflective process, allowing us to highlight our successes, while also informing what our future planning must address in subsequent years. At the end of the visitation, a report is shared, with leadership and the wider school community, that highlights the best aspects of the school while also outlining recommendations for further development moving forward. This information will be folded into the next schoolwide action plan which then becomes our guiding light of school development for the school years 2023 - 2028.
We have initiated our self-study process with stakeholder meetings for parents, faculty and staff, being carried out over the past two weeks. The slides deck from our February 16th Coffee with Pak Cory and Pak James presentation can be found below, and the Parent Question & Answer form can be found HERE.
Further note that next week, based on our academic calendar, we have two national holidays, Monday, February 28 is Isra Mi'raj Holiday and Thursday; March 3 is Nyepi Holiday. We send warm wishes to all members of our community who observe and celebrate these two special occasions.
We want to continue to remind everyone to abide by the requirements to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay positive.
Warm regards,
Cory Carson
Head of School
Please see below for new information, recent updates and any reminders.
Our GJS COVID Taskforce met today to revise the wording in our Return to Campus Plan, specifically related to Student, Faculty, and Staff positive COVID19 results (Page 6). The change eliminates the difference between symptomatic vs asymptomatic results. The updated wording is captured below:
Student, Faculty, and Staff: If a student, faculty, or staff member tests positive for COVID19:
Step 1: Contact the COVID HOTLINE at covidhotline@globaljaya.com to alert the school of a positive diagnosis so that contact tracing may begin. The confirmed positive individual enters a mandatory isolation period.
In confirmed cases, isolation should be carried out for at least ten days from the specimen collection for the confirmed diagnosis.
After isolation, a second molecular PCR test is required:
If the result of the second molecular PCR test is negative, on-campus activity can begin immediately.
If the second PCR test results remain positive, the individual will stay in isolation and be directed to consult a medical professional.
Based on the updated information received from our local authorities earlier this week, the GJS Leadership Team announced online learning would be extended through to, and including, Friday, March 4, 2022. Next week, we will update community members regarding operations for the week of March 7 - March 11, 2022.
Recently updated guidelines from the Governor of Banten require mandatory complete two-dose vaccination of all faculty and all students aged 12 and above if they are to engage in on-campus learning. The guidelines also stipulate that all children aged 6 to 11 who engage in on-campus learning must have a minimum of one dose of the vaccine.
We understand that some community members cannot get vaccinated, not because of a choice they have made, but because of the existence of medical comorbidity, prior infection / covid positive results, or some other medically acceptable exemption.
Students recovering from a covid illness will be allowed on campus but would be expected to be vaccinated within the timeline detailed in their medical exemption letter from their family doctor.
We have updated our student vaccination certificate google form to accept medical exemption letters. Faculty and students who have a medical exemption letter on file can work and study on campus. Further, these individuals will be required to provide negative antigen test results, with a maximum of 2 x 24 hours, the week they will be on campus. Please submit your vaccination certificate or medical exemption letter by clicking HERE.
We continue to ask that all community members stay attentive to the development of any cold or flu-like symptoms by members of your household. Should symptoms develop, we encourage you to get antigen tested immediately and an RT-PCR test following a positive result. In the case of a positive RT-PCR result, please communicate this outcome with us via covidhotline@globaljaya.com.
