Dear Community Members,
March and April have witnessed an incredibly active period for our learners, faculty and community members. A broad range of athletic, artistic and academic endeavours, celebrations of learnings, culmination exhibitions, and assemblies have afforded community members a chance to share in witnessing the tremendous growth our students are continuously demonstrating. Please enjoy the submissions in this month's Kontak that detail and celebrate the actions, achievements and successes taking place within our school.
Global Jaya School virtually welcomed the IB (International Baccalaureate) and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) visiting team members into our community during April 9 - 13. The visiting team members facilitated a wide range of engagements, large and small group discussions with our students, parents, teachers, board members and leadership. They also visited lessons across all age groups, programmes and disciplines. The visiting team sought to validate the information provided within our self-study by referencing additional supporting documentation, and conversing with stakeholders, thus triangulating and verifying our self-evaluation. The preliminary results were shared with our community, in an open and transparent manner, with our final celebration meeting held on Thursday, April 13th. We appreciated the large population of faculty and parents joining us within the theatre and were accompanied by the group who chose to join remotely.
Both the WASC and IB teams articulated their preliminary findings. These will be captured in full written reports that will be submitted to the WASC Accrediting Commission and the IBO. Once both organizations have had their opportunity to revise and finalise any findings and decisions on our accreditation and re-authorisation status, the full and detailed reports will be released to the school. We expect to receive both the finalized reports and status updates within a time frame of 6 to 8 weeks.
In summary, I am confident in communicating that the overall result of the visit affirms our self-study. In simpler terms, there was an agreement for what we identified as our areas of strength and further support and encouragement for the continued development of areas we, for the most part, have already identified and have started actioning. These areas of continued growth and development will be detailed in our new 2023-2028 schoolwide action plan.
The summary of preliminary findings as shared by the WASC and IB teams is captured below:
Since our last IB/WASC visit in April 2018, Global Jaya School has shown tremendous focus and commitment to addressing the previously identified areas of need. Our 2020 mid-cycle report from WASC showed that positive progress was well underway, and this 2023 visit result shows we are, without question, continuing down the right track. It is important to understand this improvement journey is NEVER over. The goal of continuous improvement means that while we celebrate our achievements, we continue to ask questions and develop strategies to do all the things we do even better.
I would again like to thank students, teachers, leadership, parents, and our Board for their efforts throughout the self-study. I say it often, AND today is no exception, maybe even more so: I am the incredibly proud and overwhelmingly happy Head of Global Jaya School.
Our Admissions team continues accepting and processing applications for the 2023-2024 academic year. Our next admissions event will be our Open House days being held this coming May 6th for prospective students and their families, allowing us an opportunity to share all that is special about our school, our community and why a Global Jaya School education is the best option for their children.
If you have colleagues, friends and/or family interested in learning more about joining our community, please encourage them to contact Ibu Kania, our GJS Admissions officer, at admissions@globaljaya.com or by phone at +62 21 745 7562 Ext.154. They will then receive an email with a link to the electronic application. Remember that we continue to offer the 5% tuition fee discount (limit of one discount per family) when one of your referred families enrols their child(ren) at GJS.
Kindly Note that our final Kontak of the 2022-2023 school year will be issued on Friday, June 9th. Please take note of the upcoming events and engagements that are spread over April, May and June. Any updates and further information prior to the June Kontak publication will be shared out via Managebac, as always.
For those of our community who have been observing Ramadan and will soon be enjoying Idul Fitri, from my family to yours, we hope your life will be full of love, peace and abundance – now and always. Wishing a blessed Eid Mubarak.
Warm regards,
Cory Carson
