Our Reception inquirers started our last UOI of the year a couple weeks ago. We are currently exploring the transdisciplinary theme of How We Express Ourselves. We are looking at how people explore and make sense of the world through the narratives they create. As part of our UOI provocation, we visited the library and observed some fairy tale posters displayed on the walls. After our visit, the students were given a chance to ask questions to show demonstration of their inquiry skills.
Our Reception mathematicians were very enthusiastic when they engaged in hands-on and Seesaw activities to compare quantities using the words greater than, less than, or equal to compare items. They counted the number of objects in two groups. The students also showed good communication skills when they turned and talked to share which group they thought was bigger with a partner.
Our mathematicians enjoyed their integrated lesson on capacity! Students compared what could hold more or less and made connections to Jack and the Beanstalk’s characters. Our students made a hen and practiced their fine motor skills to collage and fold her golden eggs, then used the golden eggs to show which container could hold more or less. Students were asked to find something from around the classroom that could hold the most eggs to help Jack get the golden eggs from the giant. Students then reported to the class which container held the most.
