Year 3 had the opportunity to demonstrate their enthusiasm and passion in a fun assembly. They used their present unit of inquiry, Where we are in Place and Time, to guide their script. Students were initially given a script and were assigned parts based on their level of commitment. Students were encouraged to make their parts their own. The first script was considered a working document that could be changed. The script's story centered around three special adventurers (The Life Long Learners). These three characters jumped around space and time, meeting many historically significant explorers. Jeff Stryker (Altan), Heather Starr (Byura), and The Professor (Gia) used teleportation to meet Amelia Earhart, Lewis and Clark, Admiral Zheng He, Ferdinand Magellan, Valentina Tereshkova, Ibn Battuta, and finally, some amazing PYPX students. Above all, the assembly was meant to be fun and informative. The year 3 finished their triumphant performance by singing the classic Louis Armstrong song, What a Wonderful World. Everyone who participated in the performance tried their best from beginning to end.
Great job, Year 3!
Mereka sangat berantusias selama mengikuti kegiatan Pekan Air Dunia. Ayo, hemat air sehingga tetap terjaga ketersediaannya untuk generasi berikutnya!
Year 3 students were lucky to have Ibu Windy as a guest speaker. She shared her migration story as a child. Her father worked for the Indonesian Ministry of foreign affairs. When she was nine, her father was assigned to the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang, North Korea. The family spent almost two weeks traveling to their destination. They had to fly from Jakarta to Kuwait, Amsterdam, Moscow, and Pyongyang. She said living in one of the most isolated countries was unique but challenging. Her whole family had to adjust to the different customs, traditions, and boundaries from what they were familiar with. The family returned to Indonesia after her father completed his three years assignment. The journey home was shorter as they could fly via China. By that time, Indonesia had already opened its diplomatic connection with China.
When she was 12, her next move was to Warsaw, Poland. Once settling in Warsaw, her younger sister joined the International American school. Ibu Windy spent an entire year at home taking private piano, Polish, and French lessons when not looking for schools that suited her. Her parents even took her to schools in Prague, a neighboring country. After many eye-wakening discussions with her parents about her future, she joined a Polish-Mexican school. She thoroughly enjoyed her life in Warsaw. She loved learning about different cultures, experiencing other food, and exploring European cities and countries whenever they had time.
After three years of living in Warsaw, the family returned to Jakarta. Ibu Windy said she needed to catch up academically even though she enjoyed the whole experience. She has been exposed to at least six languages and struggled to keep her formal Bahasa Indonesia. Luckily, her father was offered a position at Indonesia's National Cyber and Crypto Agency. Her father no longer had to be posted in countries for many years. He would only travel to a country for 30 days maximum before traveling to another country. The whole family could settle back in Jakarta and be able to support their kids' learning barriers.
After the Ibu Windy presentation, Year 3 students wrote a reflection about the guest speaker's presentation. It was a great experience for Year 3 listening to Ibu Windy’s fascinating story. Thank you so much, Ibu Windy, for sharing your migration story!
