Global Jaya On-Stage:
For years upon years, the Global Jaya School Student Council has worked to cater to all our students’ desires and concerns. We noticed from conversations with the student body that the exposure of student’s achievements, innovations, or creativity is often limited to academics. To begin the newly-awaited Semester, the Secondary Student Council initiated Global Jaya On-Stage, a digital talent competition open to all secondary students on January 15, 2021. Being open to all and any possible categories of ‘talent’, Global Jaya On-Stage provided a cherishable opportunity for students to challenge themselves or to simply showcase their talents towards a wider audience. Hosted by our new Vice Presidents, Dhira and In Seo, Global Jaya On-Stage delivered the creativity of 17 acts within our one-hour-long line-up, ranging from singing, to animation, to even magic tricks. Following each performance, three teachers provided constructive feedback towards their act and delivery.
By broadening the exposure of our students’ talents and perseverance, the Student Council body has proven that creativity is, indeed, limitless, even when faced with the pandemic.
We premiered the event on our official Global Jaya School Student Council YouTube channel, and winners of the event have been announced on our official Instagram page, @gjscouncil.
Valentine's Day:
Following Global Jaya Secondary School’s successive traditions, the Student Council presents the 2021 Valentine’s Day! To us, Valentine’s Day isn’t only held in the conventional sense where it is reserved for romance, but to also celebrate our affection towards each other as members of the Global Jaya School community. Although faced with the unprecedented pandemic situation, the Student Council succeeded to initiate an event parallel to what was usually done face-to-face — all of which by virtue of the student body’s harmonious involvement. With the transition to Home-Based Learning and online school, we held a movie night through Google Meets for students to enjoy with their peers, followed by sending cards through social media as per tradition. Movie nights were available for all year levels with varying movies per grade to accommodate the preferences of each year group. To showcase our students’ creativity, Alayka from Year 11 designed cards available in 8 different theme variations. The Student Council sent each message to designated students through our official Student Council social media account.
All-in-all, this year’s Valentine’s event has brought the student body joy despite the given circumstances of online schooling, ultimately encouraging students to express their appreciation and gratitude towards one another.
The Vice Presidents Elections has been one of the long-awaited events that the Student Council must hold every year. In this event, the Year 10s have a chance to run as partners to be Vice Presidents of the Secondary Student Council. It has been our culture that the chosen Vice Presidents will take the place of Presidents next year. This year, we are lucky to have six brightest leaders running for this year’s Vice Presidents position. Our candidates and new vice-president are amongst:
(1) In Seo Cho (10A) & Adni Sadhira Dharmakusuma (10D)
(2) Fayara Aretha Kunaefi (10B) & Kemas Muhammad Hanif Arradhin (10C)
(3) Putri Baskoro (10C) & Giorgio Soetomo (10C)
When it was offline, candidates were given a week to campaign their vision and mission statements for running as Vice President. Candidates were able to go around the canteen, and make events on their own. But of course, with these quarantine circumstances, the methods of the campaign are relatively bounded. This year, the campaigning happened on Student Council’s Instagram as well as their personal Instagrams, and we worked together with Advisory teachers. Starting from 23rd of November 2020, the week was filled with such creative campaign videos. Candidates were able to interact with other students virtually through our Instagram. The candidates persevered through the dramas and hardships of competing between friends, and ambiguity of this pandemic. Through it all, they showed everyone in the community their high potential as the next Vice Presidents.
It has now come to the nerve-wracking Vice President voting. While it is nerve-wracking for the candidates, it is as stressful for the Student Council Members. We need to ensure that every secondary student have a voice in this election. With the limitations in these circumstances, we’ve decided to hold the elections through a Google Form that will be distributed to all advisories. The voting will be open between Monday and Tuesday, in the aims of getting everyone to participate.
As with the HBL circumstances, running for Vice Presidents has been the toughest it has ever been. Therefore, the Student Council would like to appreciate all three candidates working hard to run their campaign, regardless of the result. It truly has been a joy seeing all candidates working together, developing new skills and using their own creativity in their campaign. As for the candidates who may not receive a fortunate result, don’t be too hard on yourself, we believe that your potential is still useful within the school community. We have faith that all candidates will execute amazing events and changes in the future. We trust that any candidates are going to be great Student Council Vice Presidents. Us as presidents are excited and looking forward to working with you in order to improve the school community and beyond.

Motivation Week
Motivation Week was held from September 28 to October 2 in collaboration with Ubah Stigma, a non-profit organisation dedicated to changing the stigma surrounding mental health. Through this, we had aimed to destigmatize discussions about mental health so that way, students could support each other through these times, from which a source of motivation may arise as well. This event took place mainly in the form of discussions during morning advisory and Friyay, in which each day every class was given a prompt about their own wellbeing, such as “who do you feel most comfortable talking to about your feelings?”, “what do you look forward to?” and more. Then, during Friyay, each class viewed a video from Ubah Stigma answering the questions that the students themselves asked. Overall, despite being a relatively new event from the Student Council, we felt that the event could become a way for the GJS community to be more open and supportive with each other.
Halloween Spirit Week
During the last week before term break, the Student Council alongside House Captains held a week long event full of competition and closed it off with Horror Movie Night to celebrate the spirits of Halloween. The competitions are; spooky short story competition, spooky tik tok competition, cookie decorating competition, and dress up competition. And to close off the event, on Friday Night we held our Annual Horror Movie night through online streaming. All the events were successful as we had a handful of students and teachers participating in the competitions throughout the week. Overall. Despite the restrictions of in person activities, the student council was able to deliver a halloween event which would have not been possible without the contributions of teachers and the student body. The beginning of a new academic year means a fresh start for Global Jaya’s Student Council. As we opened recruitment for year 7 to year 11 we saw many new faces as well returning students who we loved to get to know more about during the application process. The application for the Student Council executive committee was open to year 11s during the long holidays keeping us year 12s busy interviewing and reviewing applications over the course of 3 weeks. From the 20 students that applied, 12 became part of the SC family:
Vice Secretary: Chiara
Vice Treasurer: Rawnie
Vice Head of Events: Luna
Vice Head of Publications: Alayka
Year Level Representatives
Acid
Govind
Ruby
Zahra
Anindya (Documentations)
Maira (Content Writer)
With the executive committee, we drafted our annual plan for the coming academic year, coming up with new and interesting events we know the student body will love. We also came up with strategies to strengthen the Student Council’s pressence within the Global Jaya community through our media platforms to improve communication between all parties of the GJS community. We spent around 2 weeks gathering ideas and plans to make the upcoming school year as enjoyable as possible, even in these circumstances. We hope that the GJS community is as excited as we are to share our upcoming plans for the coming school year.
The Student Council helped to organise some activities for the new students’ Induction Day. Although, we could not do our annual school-wide treasure hunt that we usually do for new students, we still enjoyed meeting and getting to know the new faces of the GJS community. In Induction Day, we introduced the Student Council to the new students through a presentation where we shared a little bit about ourselves and our role in the community.
Came the first week of school, when we opened recruitment for the MYP year levels. We were so delighted that many students were as excited as we were for them to join the family. A week of back-to-back interviews, case studies and even sometimes heated discussions, we were happy with our new MYP recruits,
Year 7: Nadindra, Nisha, Varo
Year 8: Emir
Year 9: Linette, Arfa, Kaira, Allea, Raka, Indira, Sumayya
Year 10: Putri, Indra, Alicia, Dhira, Inseo, Muthia, Faya
Welcome to the family everyone!
Although, it is unfortunate that the year 12s’ final year in the Student Council can only be enjoyed remotely from the comfort of our own homes, we cannot be more excited for the potential that the Student Council holds for the future. To Arvin, Fitra, Abel, Omarr, Chandni, Jaanvhi, Gloria, Diandra, Vala and Dindi, thank you for making the last 2 years of being in the Student Council so enjoyable and it has been such a pleasure to work with you all. As for Lisa and Bhre, I’m so excited to see what you come up with in the future, I have so much faith and trust in you both.
We look forward to working together with the new recruits, School Leadership as well as other members of the GJS community for the upcoming academic year. To keep updated on Student Council activities, feel free to follow us on Instagram: @gjscouncil or https://www.instagram.com/gjscouncil/. We also would love to hear your ideas and thoughts on how we can better the school community, so please don’t hesitate to message us on instagram, reach out to one of our SC members or email us at sc.globaljaya@gmail.com.
