Year 2 students had a new experience at the beginning of this unit on March 5, 2021, when we all had our very first drive-thru frontloading afternoon. Students saw the Matter display, met their teachers who wore costumes that represented the states of matter and collected their UOI pack (materials needed for their activities). Students and parents were enthusiastic about meeting face-to-face with teachers for the first time, even though it was only from a distance.
In this unit, students explored and investigated into the properties and states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas), the changes between states of matter, and how technology plays a role in changing matter through fun experiments and observations. Each week, students developed their understanding of the key concepts of form, causation and change. From the learning engagements, students developed their vocabulary related to the unit (such as melting, dissolving, solidification, evaporation, and condensation, etc.)
