Hello Parents,
As we approach the end of the 2020-2021 academic school year, it is time for us to reflect on our year within our Home Base Learning setting. We know and understand that the well being of students is essential under normal circumstances; it is especially important during these pandemic times. Global Jaya School leadership, staff, and teachers understood and closely monitored not only student’s academic progress but also their social emotional needs.
As we come to the close of the school year, it is essential for parents to maintain open and honest communication with their child about their feelings regarding ending the year in HBL. Establishing routines to check in on students' feelings is essential. We want students to be able to express their feelings about the challenges but also reflect on the positives they have experienced during HBL. This can be done, with some dinner conversation, journal writing, having your child share their uncomfortable feelings as well as celebrating the positives. Talking about how it was different and what they learned from this experience. For younger students having them draw a picture of their favourite part of the school year and sharing it with you, and displaying it somewhere special in your home.
Our students could not make those social, personal face-to-face relationships with their classmates or teachers as we would do in a “normal” school setting. Social learning that occurs between classmates at school is just as important as academics. Perhaps setting up, supervised, “play dates” with classmates outside of the classroom and allowing students to celebrate the end of the year with other students in a more relaxed, safe, family setting via google meets or zoom. Having your child write a letter or draw a picture to give to their teacher or classmate(s). Capturing special highlights of the year and sharing those moments is very important.
It was a challenging year, however it is important that you talk with our child about their learning, growth and positive experiences this year. I am so proud of our primary students! They have demonstrated amazing resilience, strength, and flexibility.
Thank you parents for your ongoing support!
Warm Regards,
Ibu Elena
