Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is designed for students to enjoy exploring their interests, developing new interests, and developing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile in real-world contexts through individual experiences and collaborative projects. When given proper attention and time, CAS is often the highlight of students’ DP journeys. While the requirements of CAS are more difficult to fulfill during the current pandemic, there are still many ways students can grow through this process. Each month, we will highlight the CAS experiences of a selection of GJS students. This month we showcase Sebar Sehat, a CAS project led by Lisa, Luna, Rawnie, Govind and Alya from Year 11.
Sebar Sehat’s main initiative is designing workshops which offer basic education about general health. The workshop is designed to encourage communities to make positive lifestyle changes by targeting key health topics in an engaging and fun manner. Through interactive games and demonstrations, they teach students in the communities of our reach ranging from preschool to primary, the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Topics include hygiene, physical well-being, the dangers of legal-stimulants (offered for older audiences), and more.
On Saturday 26th of March 2021, Sebar Sehat set up arrangements with the target community of their choice, to Sekolah Bisa, a school that is designated for scavenger kids in the Bintaro area, and primary students who signed up voluntarily. They invited and finalized their workshop plans and rundowns for the D-Day which has been approved by both the Sekolah Bisa team as well as the specialist they collaborated with, Dr. Cut Hafiah, Sp.GK and the event went smoothly.
Sebar Sehat has shown their skill on plan and initiated a project that includes communicating with other parties involved and managing on how to deliver an engaging online workshop for kids. Congratulations Sebar Sehat!
Physical distancing regulations have created some difficulties for students when developing a CAS program that meets the IB’s requirements. To help support their students, CAS coordinators from Chiang Kai Shek College of Philippines, New York School of Colombia, Soto Grande International School of Spain, IX Liceum Ogólnokształcące of Poland, and D Y Patil International School of India join Ibu Widy from GJS to discuss CAS in the new normal.
The first event, on November 6th 2020, showcased CAS projects/experiences conducted during the pandemic. GJS was represented by Agha, Ory, and Chae Yeon, who presented their Student Ambassador Programme and Fitra, Arvin, Hejira, and Vala, who presented Kisah Korona.
Over 170 participants joined this event, with good feedback from teachers and students. GJS students were praised by their peers for their planning and organization (AtL skills!). Well done!
