Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE)

What is the Duke of Edinburgh's Award?

The DofE Award is designed to help young people gain the experience, knowledge, and the essential skills to help them grow up to be successful adults. It is a challenging but rewarding opportunity. In the GFM we offer DofE Bronze to all pupils in Year 9.

There are three different levels of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Bronze

Silver

Gold

To gain the award there are four different sections you need to complete.

Volunteering

Choosing to give time to people, the community, animals or the environment without getting paid.

Skills

Choose an activity that lets you prove you have broadened your understanding and expertise.

Physical

Anything that requires some physical effort and activity for a sustained period of time.

Expedition

Plan, train for and complete and unaccompanied expedition with an agreed goal.

Bronze timescales

It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Bronze programme.

– Volunteering section: 3 months

– Physical section: 3 months

– Skills section: 3 months

– Expedition section: 2 days/1 night

You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. Knowing how long you’re going to do it for will help you to choose your activity and set your goals for each section.
