Freshman Ethan Baker and Sophomore Austin Glockner have a combined total of 29 wins. They’ve both racked up over half a dozen wins only halfway through the season.

Glockner prevailed as a state-level talent during his freshman season and now in his sophomore year wants to work on his skills. Glocker’s father coaches the team, so it’s almost like no matter where he goes, wrestling follows. In an interview with the Gazette-Journal in January Glockner says “It carries over to the house a lot, ” he explains “he’s always talking about wrestling you kind of lose the father-son dynamic until after the season. I’ll walk downstairs and he’s like ‘hey let me show you something real quick’ … techniques, positioning, all of that.”

Baker went 2-2 at VHSL Class 5 wrestling state tournament and finished right outside the top 3.

In the first match Baker won against a North Stafford High School student at the 5:32 mark. His next match was against a Mills Godwin High School student and resulted in a loss. After this Baker moved on to the consolation bracket and won against a Thomas Jefferson High School student. A student from J.R. Tucker High overpowered him, winning 8-0

Although the results weren’t what Baker and his coaches were looking forward to, it showed his coaches that he has potential. “Overall, he had a very strong showing for a freshman at the state level,” Head Coach John Glockner says in an interview with the Gazette-Journal “He has a very bright future ahead of him.”
