Prime Minister Johnson was confirmed to have had the virus after showing mild symptoms on the 26th, a later test then confirmed that Johnson indeed had contracted the virus. It is still unconfirmed how or where Johnson was infected, however currently there is mainly concern for other officials Johnson may have infected with the virus.

Chief Scientific Adviser, Patrick Vallance, and England’s Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty are now both in isolation after having been in proximity of Prime Minister Johnson. Whitty has reported mild symptoms.

This has been the first case of COVID-19 to affect a world leader, following a scare with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who went into self isolation after his wife had contracted the disease.

Going back to Prime Minister Johnson however, he claims that currently his symptoms are only mild, and that he will be continuing to work from home in self isolation. He claims he will do this by relaying orders to those under him through the internet.

As of now there has been no confirmation on whether or not Johnson’s partner, Carrie Symonds, who is currently pregnant, has tested positive for the virus.

This is just adding to the crisis the virus has caused the UK, as well as Europe as a whole. Currently, the UK holds the 7th highest death toll, and a quickly rising infection rate. Prime Minister Johnson, although at first a skeptic of the virus, had quickly changed his views after a staggering infection rate and projected deaths. Currently lockdown has been enforced in the UK to try and slow the infection.

Condolences were given from US President Donald Trump, stating, “Wow that’s a big statement. Hopefully he’s going to be in good shape,”. President Trump, along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel got tested shortly after Prime Minister Johnson’s infection and have confirmed their tests have come back negative.
