Following more cases and outbreaks of COVID-19 in Virginia, Ralph Northam has decided to cancel public schools for the rest of the school year.

Following a two week off period for schools, Ralph Northam gave the sudden order to cancel public schools for the rest of the year. This followed a new case in a Newport News shipyard and a death of an elderly man in Virginia Beach. Ralph Northam has gone on to state, “School closures are necessary to minimize the speed at which COVID19 spreads and protect the capacity of our healthcare system”.

Currently no concrete solution has been made as to how students will continue their education. It seems that each district will be given a few choices as to how they wish for their students to make up or do school work, including extending the next school year, combining what should have been taught this year with next year, or full online classes at home for all students.
