Venus Williams, a seven time Grand Slam champion gave all she had Saturday in the California desert at Indian Wells. This is Venus’s eighth time playing at Indian Wells. A year ago, Venus Williams made a run to the semis and was ranked no. 8. Venus won against Andrea Petkovic of Germany, in her first round and made a win in all three sets 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. In the second round, she downed a set and 2 breaks to beat No. 3 ranked Petra Kvitova, who is one of the best players on tour and is Venus Williams toughest opponent until the quarters.

She played through two top 25 players along with her sister Serena Williams. In between the year she failed to make another semi-final and lost the first two rounds against Daria Kasatkina, counting one at Roland Garros. Venus is now currently ranked no. 36 in the world. “I’m definitely playing with the home crowd here, and I hopefully can continue to take advantage of that energy and momentum,” Williams said.

Venus has down a set and a double break to the third ranked player in the world, losing the first three games of the second set on Stadium court at the BNP Paribas Open. She somehow came back up to claim 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win on top of Victoria Azarenka. Venus Williams has not won a title in more than 3 years.
