Lady Dukes Tennis DESTROYED by York

“York High School’s Girl’s Tennis Team wiped the floor with the Lady Dukes at the first match of the season”

The Lady Dukes Tennis had their first match Thursday the 14th against York High School. There were a total of six matches and an exhibition set with the remaining players. The game lasted about an hour and a half and there was some pretty stiff competition between matches. York High School has won the state title multiple times. Lady Dukes Team Captain, Destiny Morales, went against the captain of York High School.

Tennis Matches can last hours depending on the skill of the teams. The Lady Dukes put up a good fight throughout the match with the total score coming to 0-6. The match got so intense at one point that opposing team player, playing against Destiny broke three of Morales’ racquets with the power of her hit.

Thursday was perfect temperature for a match with not a lot of wind. The game lasted about two hours with Destiny’s match finishing last. She says “That match was really difficult. They’ve been the state champions quite a few years and I wouldn't be surprised if they are again this year. I think that we will have a pretty good season despite this small setback.”

While it is somewhat unfortunate that the first game of the year was such a loss for the GHS Lady Dukes Tennis, they are likely to have a very successful season. With a recent win against Woodside and upcoming matches against Kecoughtan and Heritage the season looks promising.
