Gloucester Wrestlers Finish Their Season Strong

The wrestling team competes at regionals, advancing four wrestlers to states

On Friday, February 14th and Saturday the 15th, the Gloucester High School wrestling team competed in 5A Regional Event at Green Run High School.

The team brought a group of 10 wrestlers to the event and six placed in the top six, making four eligible to compete in states.

Sophomore Josh Seaton fought for first in the tough 160lb bracket, qualifying him for his first states tournament.

Junior Austin Glockner and Sophomore Ethan Baker finished as runner up at 145lb and 152lb. This makes them qualify for their second states championship.

Junior Josh Kuhen placed third at 138lbs, also qualifying him for states.

Junior Dougie Pruim finished strong placing fifth at 285lbs and Senior Ethan Parr ended sixth.

As a team, Gloucester finished sixth overall in a region of 18 teams.

On Friday, February 21st and Saturday, the 22nd they competed at the VHSL Class 5 State Wrestling Tournament at Rock Ridge High School.

Glockner returned to his second states tournament, finishing his junior season as a state finalist at 152 lbs. He finished his season with a record of 37-3.

Baker, also making his second appearance at states, wrestled through the 145lb bracket and finished 4th. He finished his season with a record of 32-10.

Seaton wrestled in a tough 160lb bracket, finishing 3rd, losing only to the events champion. Josh wrestled one of the most intense matches of the tournament, exchanging skillful moves back and forth. He finished his season with a record of 38-4.

Josh Kuhen makes his first states appearance. He represented himself well, just barely falling short of making it to the podium. His performance puts him in the top eight of Class 5 at 138lbs. Josh finished his junior season with a record of 32-11.

In all, the Gloucester Wrestling team had an excellent season.
