Gloucester Fights Hard Against Phoebus

Lady Dukes Snags Third Win This Season

On Tuesday night of December 17, 2019 the Lady Dukes travel to downtown Hampton to face off against the Lady Phantoms. In a game where Gloucester is expected to win it was very eventfully to watch. The final score of the game was 56-34 with the Lady Dukes in control the whole game.

The Lady Dukes win the tip off of the game and started the intensity instantly. Within the first five seconds Zebe Rhodes passes the ball to Makenna Keyes for an open layup to put the Lady Duke on top early.

Gloucester jumps on Phoebus early, going straight into a press defense. In the first possession of the game, Lady Phantoms are forced to turn the ball over. The Lady Dukes in the first quarter score off a lot of transition points and moving the ball around on the outside.

The Lady Dukes were also very big on the boards in the first quarter. Early on Kylie Fisk gets an offensive rebound and puts it back up to increase the Gloucester’s lead. The Lady Dukes kept the Lady Phantoms scoreless majority of the first quarter with a quarter ending score of 13-8.

Going into the second quarter the Lady Dukes not up by much came out and put up 19 points.

The Lady Dukes pull out of their press and still get the stops they need on the defensive end. Phobus started to get frustrated with themselves and the Lady Dukes saw it as an opportunity to keep pushing.

The Lady Dukes start to turn up the heat on defense and get back to back steals by Makenna Keyes and Maria Lisi. Just what Gloucester needed to help put Phoebus away. Along with the many steals Gloucester does a great job on crashing the boards and did great on the offensive and defensive end of the court.

Gloucester started to pull away in the second quarter and create some cushion for themselves. The score of the game by half time was 32-15.

Even though the Lady Dukes were up by 17 points Gloucester knew they should not let up and not let the Lady Phantoms come back.

The third quarter Kylie Fisk starts off the Lady Dukes by dropping a deep jumper to start Gloucester’s momentum. The Lady Phantoms refused to go down without a fight with answering back with a pretty three point shot. Gloucester was able to maintain their lead throughout the third quarter. The Lady Dukes finish on top after the end of the third quarter with a score of 52-20.

Still being pretty confident that the game was secured in the bag, the Lady Dukes still had one more quarter to play their hardest and but away the Lady Phantoms.

As the fourth quarter started the Lady Dukes were ready to seal the deal and finish the game and get their third win of the season. Senior Cici Roye started the quarter with a long jumper to get the Lady Dukes started.

After the clock ran out the final score was 56-34. The lead scorers of the game for the Lady Dukes were Makenna Keyes with 12, Lauren Hall with 11, and Maria Lisi with 8. The coaches decided that Lauran Hall deserved player of the game because of her hustle and effort she gave to that game.

Our Lady Dukes will face the Bethel Bruins on Friday December 20, 2019 and will play in a Christmas tournament over the break. Go Dukes!
