The Gloucester Lady Dukes field hockey team ended their great season on November 15, 2019, as they fell short just one point in the semifinals to Mountain View High School 1-0. The Lady Dukes did a great job in the regular season by going undefeated and placing second in the region.

During the regular season Gloucester stomped on every opponent that came in their way. All the hard work they put into the practices paid off in the games. The Lady Dukes had top of the line fundamentals of the game, were very well conditioned, and of course the team chemistry was amazing. All three of these things really helped the Lady Dukes get far.

In the post season the Lady Dukes went to regionals and lost in the first round in states. In the region Gloucester placed second place after falling up short to Frank W. Cox High School , 1-0, on November 6.

In the game of the Gloucester Dukes vs the Cox Falcons , the Lady Dukes were expected to lose by a bigger amount of what they did. Cox High School is ranked number five in the state, meanwhile Gloucester is ranked roughly around number 25.

The Lady Dukes played a hard game and going back and forth with the Falcons the whole game. Gloucester’s defense held Cox scoreless for the first half of the game but sadly, Cox held the Lady Dukes scoreless in the first half as well.

In the second half Gloucester and Cox were both thinking there might just be an overtime and the war for first place would continue. With just minutes left in the second half the Falcons score a goal bring the score 1-0. The clock ran out and our Lady Dukes were named second in the region, but still guaranteed a spot to states.

Students who attended the game from Gloucester said the game was really fun to watch especially it being the first time going to a field hockey game. “It was intense the whole time,” says senior Brianna, “I really had fun watching the girls do so well,” she continued. The Lady Dukes did an amazing job on fighting till the end and giving everything they have.

Gloucester High School sent the Lady Dukes off to states to next face off against the Mountain View Wildcats. The Lady Dukes were very excited to just experience the feeling of states again for the third year in a row.

At 9:30 on a Friday morning the Gloucester Lady Dukes were ready for war in Virginia Beach. In a long ongoing battle between the two talented teams Mountain View came up on top to end the Lady Dukes successful season.

Gloucester even tho being upset with the lost should be proud of how hard they have worked and how much they have fought to get where they ended up. We are all super proud of our Lady Dukes and cannot wait till next season to see how much they grow as a team.
