The Lady Dukes Basketball Team Power Fights with the Phoebus Phantoms

The Gloucester High School varsity Lady Dukes basketball team was not able to close out their amazing season with a win over Hampton but that does not over cast their great win against Phoebus High School.

They Dukes beat the Phoebus Phantoms in overtime in the final week of the high school regular season.

Gloucester nailed Phoebus on Feb. 8 and by the second quarter they maintained their lead 14-6, making nice shots and keeping their defense tight.

Their defense remained tough in the second quarter but the offense would lay off quite a bit. They wrapped up the second quarter 9-6 still favoring the Lady Dukes.

The Dukes hunkered down and pulled their team up and left the game at 23-12 by halftime.

In the second half the Phoebus Phantoms would buck up offensively and come back to rally while the Lady Dukes’ offensive stance remained stagnant.

Phoebus lead a 13-6 advantage in the third quarter but the Lady Dukes set a steady score of 29-25 right before the final frame of the quarter.

Gloucester gained nine points in final quarter but Phoebus rallied for the win. Phoebus tied the game with a 13-point quarter and sent the game into overtime.

Both teams entered overtime with the neck-and-neck score at 38-38.

The Lady Dukes’ defense gave it one last push and held Phantoms to a mere three points.

The Dukes offense pulled through for the struggling defense and the winning eight points appeared on the scoreboard for Gloucester.
