This Is The Game You’re looking For:

EA’s latest trip into the Star Wars Universe does not disappoint

Reporter Brady Landry

The newest Star Wars game made by Electronic Arts released on November 15th. The game is the first Star Wars game since 2017’s Battlefront 2. The release of Battlefront 2 was scarred by loot boxes and microtransactions, so EA decided to make Fallen Order a single player only game, with no microtransactions.

The main character, Cal Kestis, is a Jedi leftover from Order 66 (Where the Jedi were wiped out by clone troopers). Cal is looking for other Jedi to rebirth the order, goes on interesting adventures along the way. The story fits like a glove in the Star Wars canon between Revenge of the Sith and a New Hope.

The game explores a new kind of genre for Star Wars games. Instead of the normal online multiplayer or arcade shooter, the game brings a story mode game, with no multiplayer. The game feels like Dark Souls or Uncharted.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of planets to explore. But those maps and levels are so large and story-rich, it barely feels like it matters. The game has an aura of tension in it from the very beginning, with stormtroopers suspecting Cal to have force powers. Then Cal draws his lightsaber, revealing himself to be a Jedi.

The mechanics of the game are excellent. You can use the force to push storm troopers, free storm troopers, and climb through scrap yards and battleships. The combat is especially fun, fighting against baddies like Darth Vader and inquisitors.

The game introduces a variety of new characters such as Cere Junda, another Jedi who survived Order 66, and Cal’s companion droid BD-1.Cal Kestis, played by Cameron Monaghan, falls a bit flat compared to past Star Wars game main heroes like Galen Marek or Iden Versio, (from the Force Unleashed and Battlefront series, respectively) but Monaghan does just enough to make the character compelling. The most fun character is Cal’s droid, BD-1, with a cuteness factor almost as high as Baby Yoda, and the personality of BB-8, R2-D2, and Chopper from Star Wars Rebels. But the most interesting characters in the game are the villains. There are stormtroopers of course, whose aim is still horrible; but there are also Inquisitors, Jedi hunters from Star Wars Rebels, and the most iconic villain, Darth Vader, as intimidating as ever.

As mentioned earlier, Fallen Order fits into the Star Wars universe and is officially canon. Forest Whitaker reprises his role as Saw Gerrara from Rogue One, appearing on the Wookie planet of Kashyyyk. The nightsisters, from the cult favorite series Star Wars: The Clones Wars, and the mother of Darth Maul. They make an appearance in the game when Cal visits the planet Dathomir.

All in all, Jedi Fallen does have some flaws. A slightly boring protagonist is one of them, but when the games bright spots shine, they SHINE. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order breathes new life into a somewhat tired franchise, and beautiful graphics and an exciting story makes this game completely worth it.
