Kanye West's Gospel Album “Jesus Is King” is Magical

Reporter Caiden Stone

After announcing, then missing, his deadlines, Kanye West put out his ninth studio album Jesus Is King and an Imax film capturing one of the Sunday Service concerts that inspired it. The Album is finally here and it seems like it’s been forever since Kanye announced his album release, in which originally he was supposed to debut an album called Yandhi which...well... never came. Instead of that, fans have been gifted with Jesus Is King. This album really explores Kanye's views on Christianity and digs into the gospel side of his music production and thoughts.

The introduction to Jesus Is King is sung by Kanye's Sunday service choir and is titled “Every Hour.” It is a very beautiful start to the album with the engaging vocals mashed with the great production. The second son, “Selah,” sounds like an action movie trailer. It’s literally the mixture of gospel, lyricalism, and the production fits perfectly for a sub-intro to this album.

“Follow God,” though short, is really good for its duration on the album. Kanye brings a very modern flow of music with the gospel vocals in the background combined with a freestyle-like flow of lyrics. It’s followed by“Closed on Sunday,” Kanye's first song about Chick-Fil-A. I am not joking; Kanye actually sings about Chick-Fil-A in this song, but it does not disappoint at all. This song creates a lot of suspense and recognition, it just fits perfectly with the album.

“On God” is the fifth song on JIK which is co-produced by a very popular producer, Pi’erre Bourne. The beat on this song alone is amazing. Kanye with Pierre is a combination fans didn’t know they needed more of until now.

“Everything We Need,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, is not the best song on the album production-wise, but it is still brought together perfectly with Tys voice and Kanye's vocals. “Water” similarly explores the gospel side of the album with his Sunday service choir. The meaning behind this song is truly noticeable and it sounds beautiful; it might even be one of the best songs on the album.

“God Is” really digs deeper into Kanye's work with gospel. Kanye really explains what Christianity means to him as he pours alot of vocalism and production into this song making it the most meaningful song on Jesus Is King, it is incredible.

Being the third to last song of this album, “Hands On” is audibly graceful with its amazing synth that is really hard to get out of your head in a really good way. Kanye mentally gives us a piece of his mind on this track as well and fronts a lot of lyricalism.

“Use This Gospel” is the sub-outro of the album, perfectly created with a faint car alarm in the background, mixed with amazing production, lyrical verses, a reunion with Clipse and Kenny G, and lets not forget the beautiful saxophone solo.

Last but not least, “Jesus Is Lord” wraps up the album in it’s short and fantastic track. Kanye west did really well on this album. It really cleans up the picture Kanye has painted for himself for the last few years with the media pushing different views on his opinions and Jesus Is King wraps up that mess. With it he has given a clear conclusion to himself for everybody else. It’s a pretty astounding album for him and also for fans. Not to mention this album is completely swear-free, so go ahead and play this with your mom. She will not be let down.
